We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Lewis-Yarbrough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my support system. My husband, my family, my friends, and my team at AAPS have been integral in helping me to build my brand. Being an entrepreneur can be challenging, especially being a woman of color. My support system is there with me to celebrate my successes and to help me pivot when needed. Resources and knowledge can be limited regarding the intricacies of navigating your own brand, and having my support system helps with keeping me focused and grounded.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I became a psychologist so that I can provide services to people that look like me and for people in the BIOPIC community. When looking at services in the mental health field, minorities often do not feel that this is a space for us. I wanted to provide services from a multicultural lens that melds theory with practical application for those in my community as well as for other individuals of diverse backgrounds. It is my mission to #endthestigma when we look at mental health care, especially with the services offered and with the practitioners in those spaces. While this has come with some challenges, I consistently show up for those that may not have a voice. Along the way, I have been able to meet so many amazing people and I have been able to be a part of so many of my clients journey’s as they navigate life’s challenges. When the world sees my brand, I want them to see that they matter and that their voice and story is powerful and valid!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anyone that know me, knows that I love Jozettie’s Cupcakes here in Montgomery! She hands down has the best cupcakes you will ever try. Another favorite of mines and Ravello and Central. For entertainment, I enjoy going downtown and walking around sightseeing. The city is a wealth of history regarding the civil rights movement and there are several museums and sites that are historical: from the Rosa Park’s museum to the Peace and Justice Memorial.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to the founder of JTS Financial Solutions, Jessica Shuford. She is a part of my support system, and she has successfully run her business for many years now. Her patience and guidance as my friend and sister have been integral in me taking the leap into building my brand.
