Meet Amanda Johnsen | Board Certified Nurse Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Johnsen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Having worked in and been a nurse leader in conventional medicine and the modern healthcare system, I began to see and experience a significant need to care for the caregiver. I noticed this long before COVID, but post-pandemic it is an even greater crucial need.
There is so much high stress placed on nurses and healthcare providers that I really began to see depression, suicide, isolation, anger, drugs, and alcohol radically transform healthcare workers into people that was contradictory to the work they were doing. I saw marriages, families, and friendships destroyed due to nurses giving so much to their profession they had nothing left for these relationships. The reason they went into this profession to help others and care for their families was actually tearing them apart.
So as a nurse leader, I sought out a different way. I looked for a way to make a radical change for all healthcare workers. I went through training and became a board-certified nurse coach that now coaches nurses and nurse leaders to make radical changes in their lives, departments, and organizations that ultimately is transforming health care.
My mission in my work is to create a massive culture shift in health care that takes it back to the core of caring for the sick and hurting, starting with the ones doing the work. This will then transform the care the patients are receiving and allow patients to truly be cared for and healed in this type of healthcare system.

What should our readers know about your business?
Amaneth Wellness Academy, is a career and organizational company I founded to create change in healthcare. I do organizational training and culture development as well as work with nurse leaders individually to facilitate transformation in their lives and work.
I do presentations and organizational retreats for healthcare institutions looking to shift their current environment and transform their work to create the results they are looking for. I also do one on one coaching with nurses and nurse leaders that are looking to create a thriving life and revive their passion for life and work.
I also do training and coaching for other nurse coaches looking to bring coaching roles and programs into organizations all across the country. As a nurse that worked in inner-city trauma centers all the way to community hospitals, I saw, felt, and experienced a need for nurses to learn to care for themselves so they can better care for their patients. Nursing is about caring for others and helping people get well, but we are, statistically speaking, the most unhealthy profession out there. Having been a nurse for 22 years, I have experienced the burnout, depression, isolation, stress, and emotional toll this work takes, and could not find anyone that was able to help me process this until I found nurse coaching. Now my mission is to help every nurse see there is a way to care for yourself and others that is healthy, fun, exciting, and rewarding.
So I have created a company that is creating a shift in this industry to allow nurses to take control of their health and their lives so they can better serve those they care for.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The outdoors and exploring new places is so fun and exciting while also creating an atmosphere of we can create whatever we want to do. So I would first take my friend to the country to float the river and take in the beautiful sites of hill country. We would then go to downtown San Antonio for an amazing dinner on the river walk and take a boat ride through the downtown canals.
We would then spend the night at the amazing hill country resort and take in the majestic grounds. The next day we would do a little hike through the caverns and enjoy the amazing zip line. After this great experience, we would drive to Big Bend National Park and spend the next couple of days hiking and taking in the beauty of this great place and all the exploring opportunities.
As each day unfolds, we would take time to enjoy our time together by talking and exploring, taking in the local coffee shops and family own restaurants. While seeing new places and experiencing new things the most important is to truly enjoy each other’s company and all that each experience has to offer us, so we would be open to whatever came each day that we felt was most in alignment with what we were wanting to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
