We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Harrinauth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
No risks, no reward!

When trying to obtain a goal, we need to take risks! It will not always be easy, but the fear of not trying something new means, we will never move forward in life! Taking a gamble with our career means, we believe in doing the work we love!
I took a chance as a poet, with no experience or rules for writing. I love what I do as a poet and is worth bending all the rules to find my place in the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a poet, who rebels against stereotypes and stigmas of disabilities. I have have Autism, Low Vision and Brain Damage. We are not to be discounted our abilities are unique to the world and we will be triumphant in our success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It is important to explore new places and new insight from the world.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Psalm 105:4 “Look to the Lord and his strength, seek his face always. God puts those in your life who will carry you.

My friend Alex, has supported me in all aspects of my poetry! He would edit my poems and most important, tell me “You can do it” I owe him, so much for always believing in me.

Shoutout to Special Olympics Northern California (SONC) I love working with Tyler, Amanda, Toni and the rest of the staff. I was called to leave the sports component of SONC and make a full time commitment to leadership. I love speaking of behalf of my fellow Athletes. I love being a voice in the organization, I will continue to show the world, we can do anything!
