We had the good fortune of connecting with Altina Rucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Altina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When my daughter got sick with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) I had lost my job. As time went on I meet my now husband and he accepted me and my 3 kids. I could not see him doing everything by his self. And he said he was ok with me not working. But I just felt some type of way so I started to make kids stuff at home and sale on line on etsy. That market was very saturated so I was like if I had a baby to module products I was making maybe I will make more sales. I could not afford a real baby so I started looking for a life like doll. And I came across the reborn baby dolls. At that time I could not afford one so I did the research and I said to myself I’m going to try to make my own doll to model the products that I was making. I made one and it was not to my likening. I posted in reborn groups and people took intrest in my reborn because of the way I installed the hair. And it went from there and I will have been reborning reborn baby dolls 7 years in June.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is done by hand from blank reborn doll kits which I hand paint and hand install the hair to make them look life like as possible. I got to where I am today by pushing my self to always do better. I learning something evetime I paint:) I learn to calm down to be more professional with Alesha help:) I want people to know that never think that you can not do something. Never give up and push your self there is no limit.
