We had the good fortune of connecting with Aliscia Marie Gilmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aliscia Marie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve been a creative my whole life, I honestly believe creativity chose me. I was the little girl that sketched women’s clothing instead of playing outside and told other kids what they were doing wrong in art class. So I knew at a very young age that I would be a part of a field that allowed me to use my creativity in an efficient way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began creating content or blogging (what we use to call it) in 2015 while working as a Retail Stylist for a Luxury clothing store. I’m a curvy girl and have always been, so embracing and learning to dress my body was a tough journey for me. Quite often I would get asked “how do I find items that work for your figure”. So I developed my blog to help encourage women to create a wardrobe that inspires them to be the most incredible version of themselves.

Developing content was the hardest part of the journey. For years I would pack up my camera, my tripod and a few outfits and I would take pictures of myself using a self timer. It was a lot of work for one person. When I met my friend/sister Funmi Ford in 2017 we decided to work together on shooting content. This taught me how collaboration can generate success. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in entrepreneurship is “Working together is the key to success”. I want people to know that nothing long lasting comes overnight – Not self love, success or understanding. It took me a long time to love myself and before I got there I had to learn to love the journey I was on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a southern girl and southerners love food. We could kick off Friday at Redmont Rooftop – they always have a good atmosphere and an amazing view. Saturday we have to start with Pepper place Farmers Market for the best local goods then get breakfast at Ruby Sunshine and obviously do a little shopping cardio at The Summit. On Sunday’s I go to church so after a morning worship we’re hitting Roots & Revelry for brunch.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God has carried me through this journey of self and brand development. I wouldn’t have the confidence or strength to run a business or even get out of the bed of it wasn’t for the grace, peace and joy he grants me. My family & friends have also been the most amazing support system a girl could ask for. I’m not always sure that they understand what I do as a content creator but they cheer me on either way.
