Meet Alicia Kramer | Founder of the Marietta Craft Club

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Kramer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Creating a space where crafters and makers can come together has always been a dream of mine. While traveling in Chicago last summer, I came across a community craft club on social media that gathered in a park every few weeks to create, exchange ideas, and support one another. I was inspired by the sense of connection and knew I wanted to bring that same experience to the Marietta area.
I had always envisioned starting a craft club once life slowed down—perhaps after stepping away from the corporate world and settling into our new chapter as empty nesters. However, fate had other plans. Last fall, I made an early exit from my corporate career, and it felt like the perfect time to chase my dream.
Shortly after, I connected with the owner of a new retail store opening in Marietta, who was excited about the idea of hosting Marietta Craft Club in her space. With her support and a shared passion for fostering creativity, everything quickly fell into place—and the rest, as they say, is history.
Now, I’m beyond excited to welcome fellow makers into this community, where we can create, learn, and inspire one another.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Crafting has always been a part of my life, woven into my family’s history and traditions. I have vivid memories of my grandmother’s quilting group, where a circle of women would gather in her home, stitching together beautiful works of art while sharing stories and laughter. My mother was a self taught machine sewer and cross-stitcher, always working on something creative, my aunt, an artist and teacher, inspired me with her passion for creativity and my mother-in-law who was a well known porcelain doll artist who traveled the country teaching and was even tasked with creating a series of dolls honoring the state of Florida Governors’ wives. Growing up surrounded by such talented women, it’s no surprise that crafting became such an important part of my life.
Over the years, I’ve explored many different creative outlets—from rubber stamping, card making, watercoloring, and junk journaling to handmade journal making, loom knitting, needlepoint, embroidery, and sewing. I’ve always been eager to try new techniques and push my creative boundaries.
When my children were younger, I wanted to share my love of crafting with others, so I started running summer camps out of my home called “Camp Crafty Girls.” Each summer, I welcomed 10 to 20 girls into my home, teaching them a variety of crafts and fostering their creativity. Seeing their excitement and confidence grow with each project was incredibly rewarding. This passion for teaching continued as I expanded into card-making classes for adults and later began teaching at a homeschool enrichment program, offering classes in loom knitting, art journaling, and card making.
Through these experiences, I discovered that teaching others brings me just as much joy as creating itself. I truly believe that sharing our love for the arts is essential—by passing down these skills, we ensure that future generations continue to embrace creativity, self-expression, and the satisfaction of making something with their own hands. There is something so special about watching someone light up when they learn a new craft, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to inspire and empower others through art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel incredibly blessed to have such a strong support system behind me as I bring the Marietta Craft Club to life. My husband, children, parents, siblings, and my wonderful daughter-in-law, Fatima, have all played a role in encouraging and uplifting me throughout this journey. I’m especially grateful to Fatima, who has stepped up as co-founder of MCC. She brings fresh energy and insight, especially when it comes to social media, helping us connect with a younger generation of crafters. One of my biggest hopes for this club is that it serves as a bridge between multiple generations—where we can share skills, stories, and creativity, learning from one another along the way. Fatima has been instrumental in making that vision a reality.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Clare Schueren, owner of Stitched in Marietta, Georgia, for opening her doors to our group. Having a welcoming, creative space to gather each month is such a gift, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect home for MCC. Clare’s passion for community and handmade artistry aligns beautifully with our mission, and we are so excited to meet, create, and grow in such an inspiring environment.
