We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I choose an artistic and creative career field because it’s always been a dream of mine that I’ve never and will probably never stop pursuing. As a little girl I loved cosplay so I knew I wanted to act and portray different characters. As I got older I knew that If I never made it to the big screen I would either write a book or start some type of business involving what I love to do which is to entertain.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born and raised in Buffalo NY. I dropped out of high school my sophomore year after finding out I was pregnant with my daughter. At age 17 is when I said to myself I have to do better for my daughter. I got my GED, I earned a degree in communication and then I transferred to UNC Charlotte to take theater classes. After years of studying the arts this year I started a mascot entertainment business. I work as an anesthesia technician part time to pay the bills but the medical field isn’t what I was placed on this earth to do. So in the meantime I am still taking classes today, still auditioning for different roles. I am proud to say I haven’t given up. My main focus is my business. My daughter is now 14. I plan to have her and her friends help me with events once business starts to pick up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love JJ’s chicken and waffles, poppadoms. The black hair experience is the best selfie museum I’ve been to yet.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, sister, daughter, and father will always be my biggest supporters. I moved out of state with little to no money to my name 6 years later I’m in the best position I’ve been in life.
