We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Hodges and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I came up with the name for Natural State of Mind in Fall 2018 while working for a holistic spa but it wasn’t until April of 2019 that I decided to focus on skincare. I just gotten out of the hospital after having severe complications with Crohn’s Disease. My skin was severely damaged and I needed a natural to heal my body from the inside out.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Natural State of Mind’s main purpose is to create products in the most organic state of physiology by including essential oils and herbs that have not been chemically manipulated. By creating products in that form it will essentially reduce the overproduction of pigment in the skin and help in the relief of overactive hormones. I got to where I am today by essentially never giving up, understanding the reason for obstacles and always persevering through anything. Honestly entrepreneurship will never get easy but making sure that I am doing my self-care routines keeps me levelheaded.
The lesson that I am learning right now is creating a team to do the things I know that could distract me from focusing on the craft. Like a PR manager and social media manager. It relieves me off so much stress and time wasted.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh I love this question because I’m such a foodie lol. I would definitely take my best friend to Slutty Vegan, we gotta support our black owned businesses.
I love fresh and authentic seafood so I would take her to Optimist in West Midtown.
If I want drinks with a great view I would take her to Mojave off the Chattahoochee River.
If I wanna go somewhere for good music and a vibe I would say Copper Cove in Buckhead.
I love skating, so I go to Cascade at least twice a week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout-out to my mom, Tammy Davis, through all my struggles she always been there to take care of me. I love you T.Davis ❤️
