We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Organization and consistency are key to success! I’ve been focused on my personal and professional goals for a very long time. It’s all about making a plan and sticking with it – while, of course, adapting to life’s twists and turns!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my YouTube channel years ago but took a hiatus. After my birthday in the Spring, I decided to revamp my brand and share my loc journey with the world. It has grown very quickly into a place where women are celebrated and our beauty is appreciated. It’s very much a healing space for millennial women, though the channel speaks to people of all ages, cultures, and genders. The channel is www.YouTube,com/AlexisHarris and I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built with this community. Everyone is so supportive and it contributes to a safe and entertaining creative environment. It wasn’t always easy, because I also teach an undergraduate course at an HBCU. So, my schedule is quite full most days. But it’s so worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take my bestie to Little Five Points. It’s the heart of the creative community in the city and one of my favorite spots! We’d catch some live performances at 7 Stages, then have some pizza at Savage or burgers at Vortex. I love listening to spoken word artists in this area and jamming to live music. Little Five Points is pure magic!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve got to give the biggest shoutout to my YouTube family! They are incredibly supportive of my videos (www.YouTube.com/AlexisHarris) and we spend every week celebrating the hair-itage of Black women and men through videos about locs, hair, womanhood, and self care. My mom, brothers, and boyfriend are also the best support system a girl could ever have! I’m beyond blessed.
