We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Cee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Jackson, Mississippi, where I learned how to make the most of what I had. Growing up in Jackson taught me to use my imagination and take on roles I didn’t have direct access to. This upbringing instilled in me a mindset that refuses to let a lack of resources stop me from accomplishing. I firmly believe that if something has been achieved before, it can be done again, even if it takes a different approach.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is about more than just what you see. Whether I’m working on a big project or a small one, I want to make people pay attention to the details. I want them to stop and feel, watch, or listen closely.

I love it when I come across something so intriguing that I have to experience it again and again. I want to create that same feeling in others with everything I do. I hope my work becomes tied to beautiful memories that last a long time.

I owe a lot of my success to finding people who share my passion for what they do and respect what I do too. They’re the ones who talk about my work even when I’m not around and offer words of support when I need it most. That means a lot to me, not just in my career but in life.

Sure, there are challenges along the way, some tougher than others. But facing challenges helps me learn and grow. When I’m up against something difficult, I think about what I’ll gain from it in the end.

Most importantly, I want people to know how much I care and how important it is to slow down sometimes. In a world that’s always rushing, I believe in taking time to appreciate the moment, and that’s what I want to share through my work and my story.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For Brunch I would suggest The Breakfast Boys or my favorite, Waffle House.

I’m a huge museum lover so I would definitely suggest we visit museums such as the Zucot Gallery, Center for Puppertry Arts, Museum of Illusions, and the Museum of Design.

For Dinner I would suggest Go Vegan Grill or Soul Vegetarian No. 2.

I’m also an suppotaneous event attendee and there’s plenty to choose from.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my Aunt and Sister, two incredibly brave and supportive women in my life. Both battled significant health challenges last year with remarkable strength. Their resilience and determination inspired me to push myself without hesitation and to give my absolute best in everything I do, no matter how intimidating something may be.
