Meet Alexia Kirkland | Make Up Artist & Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexia Kirkland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be my own boss and if you know me then you know that I’m always put together from head to toe. Beauty became my passion the more I stepped into womanhood, and I’ve always been a girls girl. I knew that I needed to find a way that I could generate money by helping women look beautiful. I worked in retail beauty for a couple of years and I just came to realization one day that I can do this for myself. I can start my own freelancing company, with my own products and services so I can be like these big brands we see everyday in Sephora. That vision pushed me to start Alexia Allure, and I’m so grateful I took that leap of faith.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I really dove into my brand when I was at my lowest because it felt like my safe space to put my mind on something else. I lost my dad and brother within an 8 month span and how I grieved was to stay busy. I was working for Dior Beauty as a counter manager when my dad was in and out the hospital and I had to leave that position to better my mental state. While I was going to therapy and finding myself again I started figuring out my next steps in life which pushed me to start Alexia Allure. A few months later I started esthetician school and I wasn’t 1 month in the program and I lost my brother, and finishing that program was the hardest thing in my life but I knew I had to finish because that’s what he would’ve wanted me to do. Not only was I in school, I was starting my business, taking clients, traveling, grieving, and just dealing with life in general. Was it hard? Yes it was but I new I didn’t want my end goal to be me giving up so I just kept going and now Alexia Allure is 2 years old and still growing, I couldn’t be more grateful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you know me you know I love a restaurant. My go to restaurants are Pasha and Rocksteady in Atlanta. I love those spots because the food is good but the aesthetics are also cute enough for me to take some pictures. Then we would swing to the Reverb by Hardrock downtown to see our mutual friend that is also a bartender to get a few drinks. Then of course we are going shopping at the nearest mall. We love all of them honestly even if it’s to window shop we are going. Then we would end the day at the Waldorf Astoria Spa to get a little relaxation in.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If it wasn’t for my mom I honestly don’t know where I would be, she’s shown me unconditional love from the day I was born and still until this day and for that I am so grateful. She was the first to believe in all of my visions and supported in every way. The year after I was born my mom started her own business, so I’ve watched her company grow from the ground up. Now she has one of the top companies in the state of Mississippi and so many more recognitions. That gave me so much motivation as a black woman that if she can be a boss then I can too so I’ve always had that in charge mentality.
