Meet Alexandria Garrison-Crews | Caterer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Garrison-Crews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandria, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
For as long as I can remember I loved being in the kitchen cooking for others. The happiness one gets from eating delicious food brings job to my heart. In college I begin to cook for parties and gatherings and the main thing people would always compliment me on was my barbeque; I thought maybe they just loved grilled meats. As I got older and started eating out more, I realized people were in love with my food because it was delicious, flavorful, and juicy. No matter the meal it’s only as good as “the meat in the middle”. With that phrase I began to form my business model and decided why not start a catering company! I wanted to bring people and ideas together from all over the world to make dishes that satisfy the taste buds and soul. As the business grows, I would like to collaborate with other caterers and chefs to bring my customers the ultimate food experience for their events.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My senior year of college I began to cook almost every week for gatherings from 20-40 people with one pot and grill. I learned firsthand that cooking for large gatherings can be hard or frustrating and the food is always the main event. When the catering business came to fruition my main goal was to provide excellent food so my client could enjoy their event without worry. I know how much of toll it can take on someone to plan the perfect party, so I wanted to provide people with an easy hassle-free experience. I make it a point to customize menus for my clients. My motto is giving the people what they want, not what I want them to have!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes into town to see me one of my first stops is to Peters street! I love the night life there with all the bars you can just hop around to. I feel that walking around Piedmont park would definitely be at the top of the list of things to do. I would also love to walk around the Pittsburgh community to check out some of the coolest murals in the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout all my aunts and my mom. Throughout my childhood I was taught traditional soul food dishes and techniques. As I got older, we would be in the kitchen learning new meals thanks to the cooking show and internet! Now as I grow my business, I have my mother by my side helping me cater my events from decorating to serving food. It has been a fun ride so far and I am so thankful to have them by my side through it all.
