We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Shackelford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. I was going through a really difficult time during that year as most of us were. I had just uprooted my life from Los Angeles to Atlanta. I realized I didn’t have a passion or drive for acting anymore and I was going through a break up. I felt disillusioned from most of what I thought I had loved. Breathwork had always been a very healing and transformative tool in my life to that point so when I moved to Atlanta, I wanted to utilize that practice more but it wasn’t as accessible as it was in LA. At that moment, I felt the call to teach breathwork, for my own healing and so I could help others who were struggling.

What should our readers know about your business?
My Business is called Breathing Back to You. I invite people to tune into their innate sense of knowing through the power of their breath. This particular style of breathwork can be used to release trauma, emotional blocks and self limiting beliefs from the physical, energetic and emotional body. In all of the practices I teach, I do not teach anything that hasn’t personally worked for me and that’s what makes me so passionate about the work that I do. I’ve been able to transmute a lot of my own personal pain, trauma and past experiences into gifts. Gifts that have given me back my power, autonomy and a stronger connection with my intuition. Breathwork has given me the power and guidance to lead a life that I am genuinely proud of and my hope is to pay it forward to others because this is a practice that I’ve personally seen work for myself so I want to share that with as many people as I can.

It hasn’t been an easy journey and I still have many days where fear and doubt creep in. Breathwork is a practice and a tool to put on the wellness tool belt but it’s been such a beautiful journey and I’ve loved how these practices have expanded into so much more than I originally planned. I now utilize the medicinal power of sound (with the use of drums, gongs and more to assist me), I’ve expanded more into retreats and have online courses on the way. Stay tuned! 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to a man I admire so much – Joe Dispenza. His book, “Becoming Supernatural” and the meditations within that book changed the trajectory of my life and I’m forever grateful.
