We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Gettlin And Rachel LaForce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex Gettlin and Rachel LaForce, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Creating and operating a small production company and entertainment venue while married and raising two young boys is like doing the obstacles curses in American Ninja Warrior blindfolded. You’re just kinda hoping for the best. Ha! For us, balance is most literally “a balancing act”. We’re constantly rearranging and juggling. Old things go out, new things come in. One of us leads, the other holds it down at home and then we switch. This won’t work for most people. It just won’t. We’re just unhinged enough and the calling is just big enough that when we place our focus on our family first – the rest seems to sort itself out. This is not our original thought, but we have abandoned balance and now seek harmony. Because a work life balance isn’t always feasible. But finding the harmony between work, life and our marriage is. We should also note, finding harmony isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Skewed Orbit Studios, we live at the intersection of storytelling, strategy, and human connection. We create environments, experiences, and media that help people feel seen, understood, and empowered to express what’s actually true for them. We help others create what converts!
We don’t separate creativity from intention. Every project – whether it’s a podcast, live event, comedy show, workshop, or branded activation – is built with the belief that clarity is creative power. We’re deeply interested in helping individuals and brands articulate who they are, why they exist, and how they want to show up in the world, then translating that into content that resonates and lasts.
Professionally, Skewed Orbit was born out of lived experience. It came from years spent performing, producing, experimenting, failing, iterating, and paying attention. From touring with The Second City to working in Hollywood, building digital audiences, launching podcasts, and producing live events, the path here has been anything but easy. But each challenge sharpened our vision. We learned what doesn’t work, what drains people, and what creates real momentum. And yes, we create while tired most days – but we’ll chalk that up to chasing our 2 year old and 4 year old around!
The biggest lesson along the way has been this: sustainable success comes from alignment, not hustle. When people are supported, grounded, and encouraged to trust their instincts, their work gets better. Their ideas land more clearly. Their impact expands naturally.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh we love this question! If one of our best friends were visiting Atlanta for a week, we’d build the trip around good food, creative energy, being outside, and a dash of chaos (the fun kind).
Day 1: Eastside Energy
We’d start in Old Fourth Ward because that’s our spot!! Morning coffee at Muchacho (great vibes, great people-watching), then a long walk on the Beltline. Quick pop in to Ponce City Market and then dinner at Delbar because we love flavor and good energy.
Day 2: Culture + Creativity
Next up, we’d spend the day at the High Museum and then wander Little Five Points – think: vintage stores, murals, record shops, pure character. Dinner at Bocca Lupo – a place that feels and tastes thoughtful without being stuffy or too trendy.
Day 3: Unwind
Morning at Chattahoochee Coffee Company, then a walk along the river if the weather’s right. Maybe a farmers market, maybe a bookstore, maybe sitting on a patio talking about life for three hours. Atlanta is best when you don’t over-plan it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Great question! We’re always looking for an excuse to shoutout our families. While over the years, we have had support from many places that have gotten us to where we are; there is not a shot in hell that we would have been able to plan, open and operate Skewed Orbit Studios without our parents. We have three sets of grandparents that offer us so much support. We really work to make sure one of us is always at home and hands on with our boys but on occasion we both are called to the same or separate places and we’re beyond blessed that our families are able to step in and support.
