We had the good fortune of connecting with Alessia Secli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alessia, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is been the most important part of my job and my life. As an artist, there’s no gain without a little risk!
Every audition or callback requires some choice making that will determine whether I will get a positive outcome or not. It is always taking a risk and hope that that is what they wanted to see.
As in my personal life, I also had to take the risk and move from Italy, were I was born and raised, all the way across the ocean to New York.
Back then, there were a lot of scary factors to consider: all the struggles of living in a different country, not knowing anyone, speaking a different language and starting an artistic career in a completely new environment.
But that didn’t stop me and I will always be glad I took that risk!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Time to introduce myself! Hello, my name is Alessia Secli and I am a singer, actress, dancer and choreographer, originally from Italy but currently living in New York City.
From a very young age, my dream has always been to be on stage and share my passion for arts.
I started my professional training in Milan in 2017 were I got my musical theatre degree, followed by a ALCM diploma in music theatre singing at the University of West London. In 2019, in need of a change of environment, I decided to move to New York in order to pursue my career in becoming a professional musical theatre actor. Here I continued my artistic studies and have been part of numerous productions such as: Working -A musical (Maggie), The Balcony (Circe), Pippin (Fastrada), Xanadu (associate choreographer), The Full Monty (ensemble), Neverland Never Ends (Barrie’s mother/Tiinkerbell), Addams family (Grandma Addams), 5 Paths to Uptown Stories (Clarisse), Someone in the crowd (Mia), The Taming of Kate (Baptista), A Chorus line (Diana Moralez) Uninvited water and Yes!
It definitely wasn’t a easy journey, it took so much patience and sacrifice but going back I would not change a thing. This journey is part of who I am as a person today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My recommendation for anyone that comes visit New York is always to go watch a show on Broadway. That magic is hardly matched in any other place in the world. When it comes to food, as an Italian, I have been searching for a good Italian pizza since I moved to New York and I would definitely share my favorites with you: Ribalta on East 12th (Union Square area) , Fornino on Pier 6 in Brooklyn, but also Briciola on west 145th in Hamilton Heights.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely have two big shoutouts to do! First of all, I want to thank my parents for supporting me, all these years, with their help and their words, doing everything they could to be sure I had what I needed to embark in my journey!
I could have never done it without them!
And second shoutout to my theatre company cofounders Luca Villa, Sara Santucci and Sara Grassi. These are the people that have most helped me grow as an artist and a person. Since we met the first time we knew we had to create Art together and we never stopped. They inspire me everyday to be the best artist I can!
