Hi Albert C., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As I was progressing in my corporate career, I started to realize that the difference between business success and failure is highly dependent on the strength of a company’s accounting team. I would routinely meet small business owners who didn’t understand the importance of accounting, but the big successful companies that I worked for have large accounting departments. A lot of the companies that can benefit the most from the organization, planning, and the time and money savings are the companies that aren’t investing in it. I’ve learned that it’s really because they don’t understand the value that great accountants and CPAs bring. Over time I became more and more inspired to be a big part of increasing small business owners’ knowledge of what accountants do and why they need it. Every single business needs accounting! Accounting is literally the language of business. That’s why it plays such a huge part in a business’s success or failure. Right now, 20% of small businesses fail in their first year and 30% of small business fail in their second year. One of the top reasons is their management of resources. Big successful businesses know this, but a lot of small businesses have no clue. I started Right Choice Accounting Solutions to not only tell them, but to also help them grow the way the successful businesses grow. We’re not just an accounting services or bookkeeping firm, we partner with our clients to provide unique solutions for their unique problems. In just over 1 year, we’ve saved our clients well over 6 figures. In fact, most of our current clients are referrals from other clients who love what we do. Simply put, I started my company to solve the small business problem that small businesses don’t realize is their biggest problem. We routinely save our clients time and money with strategic accounting solutions and they love us for it!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We save our clients time and money with strategic accounting solutions! Right Choice Accounting Solutions is an accounting firm that offers an “Outsourced Accounting Department” service. This means that we partner with small business owners and handle the whole accounting function. Most companies offer standalone services like bookkeeping, payroll, or tax preparation. When you partner with us, you focus on running your business and we focus on your financials. The thing that has really worked out in our favor is our customer service. Generally speaking, most accountants are quiet introverts. My ability to communicate what I’m doing and why I’m doing it has been the biggest reason my clients refer me to their friends and families. It definitely hasn’t been easy at all for a number of reasons. One of our biggest struggles has been convincing business owners that accounting is an investment and not just an expense. You actually get a return on your investment into a good accounting system. “A good accounting system saves you more than it costs” sounds like a sales pitch, but it’s actually the truth. Overcoming this is still a challenge, but definitely a challenge worth overcoming. This is why I started this company. Every single business needs accounting! If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much to do here! We would probably “nerd out” a bit and go places like the Center for Civil and Human Rights, the GA Aquarium, and MLK’s park. We would have to go to Slutty Vegan. Everybody loves Slutty Vegan! We’d have to hit Juicy Crab once or twice. Honestly, the week would be spent primarily eating and checking out the parks around the city. Whatever mood we’re in, there’s something to do/eat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to Shoutout my wife Lauren Hurston. I’ve had a lot of support from my friends and family, but she went above and beyond for me. When becoming an accountant and CPA was just an idea that I had, she believed in me and supported me at every step. Without that support, motivation, and just picking up the slack I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish a fraction of what I’ve accomplished. She’s the real MVP!
