We had the good fortune of connecting with Akili Yasmine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akili, do you have a budget? How do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?
Yes, Yes, Yes! I am so happy to say that YES I do have a budget. I am still working on being disciplined with my budget but am excited to work towards good stewardship of my abundance.

I haven’t always had the best relationship with money. In fact, when I was younger. I hated money! I felt like it was too stressful to have it and make the right choices with it… try to save it… So, I just spent it. My mom is really good with finances and my dad is a businessman – So, my parents have always had conversations with me about finances but it didn’t start to really stick until recently.

Budgeting isn’t restricting.. it’s freedom! Just think… If God can trust you with a little. He can definitely trust you with a lot!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a model but I consider myself a brand because God has created me in such a multi-dimensional way. I am most proud of how much I’ve grown as a model now that I have really decided to walk in my purpose. Modeling just kind of fell into my lap and I ran from it for such a long time but once God showed me how He is using me through this platform to encourage others and represent for young, melanated, black women…. I embraced it

It hasn’t been an easy journey but I overcome challenges such as imposter syndrome and rejection in the industry by remembering my “WHY” and by remembering that my purpose is written.

The biggest lesson that I have learned so far in my journey is that “nothing is personal” and that “things don’t happen to me, they happen for me.”

I want the world to know that Akili Yasmine is going GLOBAL and GENERATIONAL. That I believe that my Divine purpose is bigger than me and I am excited to see how God shows Himself and His light through me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in the city is Warehouse 782! It is the perfect production studio in the middle of the Historic West End!
