We had the good fortune of connecting with Akeyla Pascoe-Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akeyla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Honestly my thought process behind starting my business was how do I reclaim my time? and once I reclaim my time what am I going to do with it?

I really wanted to find the sweet spot between making money while not spending alot of time to make it. I was tired of working long hours and making good money, but not having control of my time and feeling unfulfilled. So I began researching businesses with a low start up cost, not alot of time to execute, and I can still make great money. Vending is such a great way for me to have time freedom and be able to do the things I want to do with my time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I got here by losing alot at one point in my life believe it or not. I was in a very low point in my life mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. I honestly wanted to end it all and I overcame the challenges of starting over by continuing therapy. I had to start slow and build small habits towards the future that I saw for myself. It caused me to brainstorm a path that most aligned with me. This is how I came up with the starting a vending machine business idea which will allow me to make money while having time freedom.

The lesson I learned is showing up for yourself as an individual is very important in order to fulfill your plans. How do you love on yourself? How do you make yourself feel seen? How do you feed your inner child? because at the end of the day everything you are trying to accomplish will be in vain if you are not showing up for you. You will accomplish your goals and still feel empty. Also showing up for yourself translates into how well you run your business and create.

What I want the world to know about me, my brand, and my story is that Keyfacts Enterprises was birthed for me to create time freedom for myself and be able to make money at the same time. Most importantly so that I can heal and to give my future wife and kids the life that I never had. My mom and father were not present parents. My father abandoned me and my mom worked alot and wasn’t present during my childhood due to her upbringing. I know she did the best she could and that with us being Jamaican its kind of a part of our culture to work alot. It was kind of like as long as you put food on the table that means you love your kid. It was a huge eye opener for me that I wanted to raise my kids and live my life way differently. I want to be present for my kids and wife. I want to go to all their games, listen to all their stories, and support them through everything. Being physically and emotionally present is very important to me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My support system are my therapist and my friends. They have constantly been encouraging and speak life into me even in the moments when I felt I may not be able to start my business and follow my heart.  They celebrate my wins as if they were their owns. I am so grateful for each one of my friends for being there for me, listening, and filling my cup when I needed it the most.
