Meet AJR Wow | CEO & President

We had the good fortune of connecting with AJR Wow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi AJR, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As my 9 to 5 lifestyle is dedicated to currently working full time for MycoWorks, a Biotechnology company founded by artists, creating high quality materials using Fine Mycelium. I spend my evenings & innovating and creating for Compass Music Group while simultaneously working on website creations for others. Over the years setting boundaries in my life help me to keep certain parts compartmented from others. I believe the balance is working as in years before the feeling of being burnt out can lead to work not being where it needs to be, artistically & efficiently.

What should our readers know about your business?
Compass Music Group

The road was not easy, after a few name changes, a couple team resets, we realized the value in finding the right direction – which led to Compass Music Group. As I sat out goals to help my friends develop their music careers, the current theme of “Marlon you have never been an artist” continued to create a barrier between my artistic friends and I. I then believed that it would be best for me to give music a try. After months of research I released my 1st single, ‘March On’ debuting at 1,200+ streams first week, for me this was a test. I released three songs in 2022 to test how the industry works, gaining knowledge on what to do and what not to do. After seeing great results, I began to share this data with my colleagues and the rest was history, the trust is complete. We created ‘308 Island Productions,’ combined my friends from high school and college who rapped. I quickly realized that such a wide variety of individuals to start was hard to rally everyone into the idea. I then decided that I needed to head in the right direction and Compass Music Group was form with BAKARI, Rayo Kali, & myself, AJR Wow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve resided in Atlanta for nearly a year but primarily spend my time in the Buckhead & Lawrenceville area. I always recommend taking your time around Atlanta as the options were endless. Spending a lot of time at Illuminarium Atlanta, where they host immersive exhibits. As night life is a priority in my field, I spend my nights starting off at Fado’s Pub Midtown with DJ Steve & DJ MVGIC, showing support as both are from St. Croix as well. My night then follows to MG Tavern at the Mall of Georgia, where nights are hosted by Leeoh Litt and with great DJs and vibes as well. As for food, got to love some good wings from Blue Flame Lounge!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To recognize one person or group is hard as I believe my life was molded from my upbringing in the Virgin Islands to my time working on Disney Cruise Ships. My friends from high school, Joe, Ray, & Bdubs over the past few years with their encouragement have shown me that I can achieve something greater for myself and for us. My college colleagues as well, BAKARI & Rayo Kali have stuck by my side in the creation of Compass Music Group as this was a goal written out 7 years ago whilst in college. All that to say God, who deserves all the credit as myself would not be able without him.
