We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisha Sayles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aisha, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I am a single mother of 2 amazing young Kings. In their eyes, everything that I do is great. In my eyes, however, I feel that the most important thing I have done would be not giving up. There were so many times that I wanted to throw in the towel, not just on my business, but on life. Being blessed to be able to look into their eyes daily gave me all the motivation that I needed to keep going. It no longer mattered how many nights of sleep I would lose, how much I wrecked my brain, or how bad I wanted to pull out every strand of hair from my head. I will never give up on myself, my dreams, and most importantly, my children.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Stallunique is a boutique which accommodates plus size women in apparel, but provides accessories for all. We not only sell materialistic products, we also sell a life changing experience. We pride ourselves in giving every customer a boost in wardrobe and self-esteem. I feel that this is what sets us aside from other boutiques. There were many obstacles that had to be triumphed in order to get to where I am today. I had to learn the importance of research, patience, and time management. It was definitely not easy by any means. As an entrepreneur, you have to make so many sacrifices. I feel that they are truly worth it in the long run. There is a lot of prayer, help from others, and harsh realities that helped me through it all. I have learned that along with the good, there will come some bad. You will never truly be prepared for it, but if you are wise, you know how to maneuver through. We cannot avoid the inevitable, but there is always a route to take in order to get to the proper destination. I want the world to know that Stallunique was formed by a woman who has been told that “Big would never be beautiful”. I want to be an example of how curves are to be embraced, not disregarded. My story is deep, and will be openly shared with the world one day. Stay tuned!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were enjoying a fabulous week with my best friend, our first destination would have to be to the beach. I absolutely live to be connected to the water. It is my peace and tranquility in this crazy world. We would set up a picnic on the sand and once we are done, dive right into the water. Our next stop would be finding a nice place to go dancing. We both love to dance carefree. It honestly doesn’t matter where because we are very diverse when it comes to music. Some of the most interesting places we like to visit would have to be museums. We love art of all kinds.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mother (Andrea Curry). She taught me at a young age that being different is beautiful. She helped me to love everything about myself. I also want to dedicate my shoutout to my dad (Terry Sayles Sr). He taught me to be the free spirit I was born to be, and to do it with pride. He also taught me that respect isn’t always given, but it can surely be claimed. Lastly, but definitely not least, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my children (James and Jamykel). They taught me the true meaning of love and happiness.
