We had the good fortune of connecting with Aileen Kermane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aileen, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is to keep patient and never give up. A lot of people say “time is of the essence” but I say (“time is what you make it”) Growing up I learned the hard way that even though you set goals you may not always make them on time. Yet, when you do it doesn’t make the victory any less sweet, In fact that triumph can be even more rewarding.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I would like to think is different about my style in musical expression is that you never know what you’re going to get you just know it’s going to be raw, honest, and uncut because that’s the type of person Swaggz is! I’ll never get the day out of my head in 7th grade when my math teacher Mr. HAUN asked the room what we wanted to be when we grew up. Of course I said a rapper straight face and all. He looked me dead in my eyes and told me I’ll never be able to make it unless I’m one of Snoop Dogg’s cousin’s. My mother always instilled she wanted me to have a plan B but i always knew rap my was my plan A B and C! She hated that, but she understood. She never shys from letting me know she thinks I have a gift and I know even though times may be rough she has always been a driving factor to my success. I was never the hot, booty shaking, girl from next door so I had to earn my respect as a female artist. And I can confidently say anybody who has taking the time and heard me liked what I had to offer. I want the world to know it is so easy to hate but even harder to love so let’s be an example of Change. My goal is to make my fans feel that love they only thought existed in movies to be real.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Atlanta night life is the place to be. I’ve traveled many states across the US but yet nothing satisfies my needs like that good old southern hospitality. From all the beautiful bright lights at their rooftop bars to the going skating at Cascade Atlanta has not disappointed. I love hanging around other music artists and literally their is a festival every weekend with great networking and vibing with friends. I love our authentic soul food but nothing hits the spot like a home cooked meal a 20oz of Pepsi and spending my night in the studio making magic.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was 6 years old when I joined the choir at Mt Olive Missonary Baptist Church in Canton,Ohio i still can remember the perfectly lined pews and the way everyone rejoiced when we sung our music. I loved everything about music from the drums to the piano playing but when I was 8 my big sister was like a mother figure she always had my back and she taught me rap. Not how too, but she taught me actual rap! From Missy Elliot to Tupac all the way back to run DMC she taught me the vibrations and the marinations of songs and instrumentals inside and out. She really opened my third eye for music all around! But I’ll never forget when I was 16 and Nicki Minaj first dropped her and the lgbtq community has always showed me love despite my flaws and in her music a fire was lit in me!
