We had the good fortune of connecting with Aidan Atkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aidan, why did you pursue a creative career?
Ever since I was young, I have always had a passion for telling stories. I didn’t know that’s what I was doing at the time when I was making up intricate plot-lines for my Ninja Turtle action figures. When I was in the 7th grade, I watched “The Walking Dead” for the first time. I was taken aback by the story, and I immediately read the graphic novels they were based on. Seeing how well crafted this world was changed my life. I got a notebook and started writing my own zombie story, with my own characters. I have drafted and changed that story so many times. I am still working on it to this day, all the characters have changed. I joined theatre in high school and loved performing. That was the last nail in the coffin I needed that showed me, this is the lifestyle I want to pursue.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The thing I focus my creative passion on is writing. Now I am currently working on a screenplay and a novel, with many other ideas in store. For now, I want to focus on some of the things I am actually doing. I have my own blog where I post rankings or stories based on entertainment. I love all forms of entertainment so everything is covered. I always say my favorite show is “The Walking Dead” and my second favorite show is “Glee” so pretty much everything falls in between those two. I love all types of art: film, television, drag, gaming, music, etc. I have such a deep and vast knowledge of so many different worlds. People joke about how I can rattle off episode titles or who performed against who at the end of an episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. I just graduated college and I have had a lot of amazing mentors along the way. My journey was not easy, but that’s what makes my journey worth it. I had a pretty rough upbringing, but I would not change a single thing. It is those exact trials and tribulations that made me who I am. I encourage people all the time just to talk and share stories about their lives. There are so many things that people don’t talk about because it isn’t “normal” or it’s uncomfortable, but these are the things people find most relatable in stories. I learned that your experiences change you and that is such a great thing. There is one story I have been working on since the seventh grade, I just graduated college this past year. The story has changed so drastically, basically none of the characters are the same. The setting is different, the tone, everything. I am grateful. One of the things I love to explore most is how we as humans try to balance good and evil, and how certain situations can tip the scales in one way or another.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve mentioned in this interview that I am a big fan of “The Walking Dead”. This is a show filmed in Georgia, so anytime my friends and I are around, we make the trip revolve around that. We visit some of the iconic locations from the set. There is a beautiful bridge that stands over the main interstate going into Atlanta that was featured in the series premiere. My friends and I sat and watched the sun rise on that very bridge. It was incredibly special. We love eating at Nic & Norman’s. I have a dear friend, Anissa, who is an expert on all locations, so I always contact her to let me know of some of the greatest areas to check out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my Walking Dead family. I have developed so many friends from what was once, a little zombie show. Most, if not all, of these friends are fellow creators: cosplayers, artists, podcasters, writers, painters, singers, etc. We all push each other to keep being creative, and when we get a little discouraged, we help each other out.
