We had the good fortune of connecting with Ahkira Essien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ahkira, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business started when I was in middle school. I always had a hunger for money but not necessarily working for someone. I started selling candy and that instant gratification of earning a profit sparked something in me. As I grew up I just knew I needed to start a business of some kind. When entering college I chose to peruse a business degree because my desire to be a business owner was still so relevant. Eventually I left school and started to self educate. I wanted to know more about rich people and wealth etc. In my search of financial freedom, owning a business came up again along with other things. Starting a business was something I knew I could do now. I began strategizing what I thought was most natural for me to sell and I started from there. From that moment I dove deep into building my business out and planning.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been blessed on my journey of entrepreneurship. I started off trying to enter the beauty industry. While networking that company I was given the opportunity to do taxes. Already being in business really prepared me for the second one. With all of my studies and efforts from building my beauty brand I knew exactly what I needed to do as far as structuring my new business. I just had to really learn the tax laws. While I love my beauty business, taxes has really taught me a lot financially. I am very proud to share that needed information and make a difference not just physically & emotionally but mentally as well. God and persistence are how I’ve gotten this far in general not just business. It can be challenging but it’s more rewarding then sitting behind a desk for me . So I keep pushing and strategizing to get better. It’s like a game for me especially marketing. Lessons that I’ve learned along the way are systems are your best friend! I want the world to know I am just someone who wanted different for myself and generations to come. If I can start with just that desire alone no prior knowleadge you can to. Once you start things will fall in place and you will get in alignment with the right people. Who may push you towards your purpose or just more overall .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In ATL there is so much to do. We would definitely spend the week eating & laughing. I’m fairly new myself so I’m usually asking other people where to go, lol. I love seafood so I would definitely hit juicy crab or crab 404. I also enjoy places with good music and vibes like, suite lounge, cru, hide or copper cove. The night life here is also very fun. So many lounges and clubs to choose from. Gold room, blue, traffik to name a few. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout the first book I read on my journey which changed my perspective. Which was the 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey. I
