We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbie Knights and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abbie, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
They say that in life, your journey, is simply a matter of choices. My greatest motivation in success, has always been to build a platform large enough to be able to help children in a big way. Discovering your purpose is powerful, I truly believe mine’s always been to help others. One day, if I were no longer here, I’d want to be remembered as a humanitarian and an all-around good person.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Initially, as a child, I always aspired to become a singer one day. There were many ups and downs along the way, from meeting with major [record] labels, to opportunities to be be featured on movie soundtracks, to everyone having a different idea of who and what I needed to be and look like to the general public. I felt so lost. For up and coming artists and creatives today, it is so important to have the right team around you and to always be true to yourself. I ended up finding out that at one point I had five record deals, three of which were majors, but by the time the information got to me, it was too late. I had a manager in place as a “representative” (we had no contractual agreements), who declined all five deals because he insisted on needing to be negotiated into the deals. This was back in the beginning of the “Myspace” days, before social media became this massive resource. They controlled my page, refused to give my contact information when requested… in the end, the labels were never able to get in touch with me, needless to say I was heartbroken. Fast forward to years down the line, nearly a decade later, I’ve been credited on major movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, amongst many others, and am currently hosting my own morning show, 5 days a week, on a top 40 FM station in California, in a top 30 market. There were so many moments where I doubted myself and my ability to have certain accomplishments, unfortunately, these things don’t come with a step-by-step book on “how to” get things right. There have been many sleepless nights, a lot of tears and frustration along the way… I had to teach myself how to do everything, literally. Looking back on everything now, that was a huge feat personally. But in the end, it’s been truly rewarding and it’s paid off. In less than 8 months, my show was at 1,000,000 listeners, with no marketing or press… I’d do it all over again, as they say, knowledge is EVERYTHING. No greater teacher, than experience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends and I love staying active! So, I’d start out by going hiking to Stone Mountain Park, then follow it up with a full visit to Refresh Cryo for a 3-min Cryotherapy session, followed by 45 mins in the infrared sauna, then finishing with a 30-min leg compression treatment and 20-mins on the oxygen bar. Throughout the week, we’d go to amazing food and beverage locations like Bulla, Pappadeaux, Cafe Intermezzo, Ra Sushi Bar and Bar Vegan. Of course, we’d have to conclude the week with a trip to Chateau Elan, for an amazing wine tasting and tour. If concerts were in full effect, we’d definitely have a few on the schedule as well! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Nothing worth having comes easy… it comes with a lot of trials, uncertainty and many trying moments, but through it all, if you stay persistent and dedicated, once you get to the other side of it all, it’s one of the most rewarding feelings. My journey has felt rather endless thus far, however, none of it would be possible without the unconditional love and support of my Mom, who always encouraged me to follow my dreams unapologetically and dream bigger. Aside from being my best friend, confidant and biggest supporter, she’s always been my greatest inspiration on a daily basis. She’s been battling cancer for 14 years now, with 10 of those years being at stage 4, she’s basically a walking miracle. In spite of all the challenges she faces daily, she wakes up ever day ready to fight, but above all, simply thankful for the gift of life. In our family, she is our gift. Without her wisdom and constant encouragement, I’m not sure I would’ve had the confidence to chase my dreams so fearlessly… or where I’d be today. I’d like to thank her, for being the reason I am who I am today. Without her, none of my success would be possible.
