Meet Aaron “Quick” Nelson | Professional Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron “Quick” Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaron “Quick”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To me when I think about risk, I think about courage, belief, and at times dealing with vulnerability. These are just a few major things that requires risk taking. And whenever you’re taking a risk for something, you begin to know who you really are. You tend to face levels of experiences during the process. The failures that may occur and if so, how would you react towards that failure? What’s your thought process? Would you give up or would the failure motivate you to find a way to reach success? These are things that make you grow in whatever you’re striving for because you believe that this risk is worth it. And your craft and you yourself are worth it. Especially as an “artist”. Being able to go as far as you want to go in your acting career, you would have to take risk. There will be things you would have to give up. If you auditioned for a role that could be recurring or a season regular, would you be willing to up and quit your 9 to 5 with a stable income or not? Would you take the extra hours to dive in more into character development and the script for preparation instead of watching your favorite show and spending time with friends and family or not? Realize if you decide to follow your dreams head strong, you are risking losing something and gaining something all at once. What’s important is what you are gaining, is what you exactly want and need for your career for it to grow and what you’re losing, is not destroying what you have been risking your life for your career. Also, expressing yourself in a way that some others may not accept could be a form of taking a risk. There could be a risk of losing friends or invitations from casting directors because of their disagreement. In this case, as an artist that easily gets typecast by my intimidating look, when playing the role as a vulnerable man instead of always going for the authoritative and intimidating role, took a risk of would I ever get an audition again from the casting directors I’ve turmed down their audition invitation because I decided to go for something different instead of the same role that I have played in many projects. I wanted to express and experience different layers of emotions and stories in other roles. It was I that believed and took the risk because I wanted more for myself and my career. And order for me to do that, I had to take the risk. And I am glad that I’ve done that because it has made me a better and versatile artist.
Few of the most important factors from taking the risk that has impacted my life and career in a major way was having the courage and beliving that anything in life that you want to pursue is possible. All you have to do is go for it. Take the risk! Especially if you believe that you are meant to be who you want to become. And do what you want to do. And as long as you believe, stay patient, persistent, and put in the work, everything will pay off. I wanted to not be just INTERESTED but COMMITTED in my acting career to become better and LIVE it. Risk taking levels you up. Every role that I play, I look for a risk and portray it. Taking a risk brings volumes, brings light in things you didn’t know, and later brings power. Level up!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I look at an actor as an artist. I say that I am an artist because I help tell a story by painting a glimpse of a role I get to portray in real life. I get to react in many ways emotionally and physically. I make sure that it’s my job to express that to the world to see. Acting, i’ve always wanted to be a part of it somehow as a kid. My first real taste of it was my first play at Leon High as Macbeth. Studying Shakespeare and theater and performing on stage became a passion immediately. It was more than the performance and the reaction from the crowd. It was the process, the preparation, and the work that got me hooked. So you can say that I love the work before the performance. Because once you put in the work, your performance will come to life. And to see that is very rewarding. Coming from a professional athletic background, my training style is as if I am training for the Olympics. I put in the hours, the work in every aspect I could think of that could help strengthen my craft. I would say with my dedication and hard work, my supporters has helped me to get to where I am today. Not only they are the ones who encourage me but also the ones who tell me if I not doing good enough, what I need to do to get better, and make sure that I am on point as a professional. There have been a time where this journey wasn’t easy for me at all. There have been many times where I’ve asked myself if being in the acting industry was for me. Was I good enough? Will there ever be a time where someone would see that I am more than an artist playing a cop or guard? Would there ever be a time where someone would give me a chance to show them what kind of artist I am? Is all of the years of advance training from drama to comedy that I have been doing is worth it? There have been times I thought about giving up but I knew that I could NEVER do it. I had to CONTINUE. I had to CREATE. I had to BE. I had to INSPIRE. Because if I haven’t yet, one day I will influence another to not give up and continue the process. To continue to love what they love doing no matter what’s battling in their way. The lessons that I’ve learned along the way is to stay the course and stay patient. Stay strong wiiled and be fearless. I want the world to know that I, AARON “QUICK” NELSON is not just an actor who loves the art and love to act. I want the world to know that I am an serious artist who works hard to let you know that I have something to tell and to show you. My trails. My tribulations. My experiences. My failures. My hardwork. My tears. My pain, I put in my work in acting is real and is a purpose. And you may not know much about me and my work yet but I am going to keep working hard enough that one day you will.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depending alot on their personality and interest but if I had to show my friends a good time, I would like to take them somewhere that has the best food in the city or a restaurant with culture food they have never experienced before. I would take them to a place that has plenty of entertainment like a live show.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been fortunate enough to have some of the most incredible experiences and opportunities in my life. There are so many people throughout my life who have made an impact, and all of them deserve a shout out. From my wife, family, friends, life and acting coaches. Also my agents and my manager, I would like to send a huge shoutout for all that they have done throughout my career. Without them, I wouldn’t have make it this far. They have provided me the support I needed. I am so blessed to have them in my corner.
