We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaliyah Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaliyah, what do you want your legacy to be?
We all want to leave behind something spectacular or be remembered for really making a difference. But the truth is we all make a difference! I want my legacy to represent the little people who make a difference and acknowledge everyone. Team work really makes the dreamwork. I also want people to remember when you work with me, I truly care about you as a person and our project. Caring is really where it all starts and ends. If we don’t care, we don’t love and you can’t work hard or dedicate yourself to do the right things. I want people to remember If you don’t care about yourself , how can you expect to care for others ! I want my legacy to represent love, good vibes, and blessings. Showing others how to be the best version of themselves , so they can reciprocate that energy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a special effects and beauty MUA. I work in film and television to make visions come to life. Due to covid a lot of sets closed and I focused more on my other ventures. I do management and development for models and creatives. I get them castings/jobs , photoshoots, invites to celebrity events, & more. I also am a cosmetic chemist. I make makeup for upcoming businesses and a few big brands private label. I also have a podcast where I interview and promote small and black owned businesses! I’m the most proud about the finished product. When my clients visions come to life it excites me how happy they are, especially when they cry. I cry every time !
It was not super easy but you learn to tweak things where needed, Also they were things I was already doing I just didn’t have time. Covid gave me the time to perfect my craft and actually get out there and do it. My first few events were confirmation that I was on the right path !
My biggest challenge was trust. This industry so many people have had bad experiences and I have to show them that I’m different. I provide way more than just a service and the bare minimum.
I learned to be patient and manifest. Keep those goals written down and keep in your mind that you already have what you want and you will get it !
I want the world to know I love making people happy and that my job allows me to do so. Its a blessing and I couldn’t be more grateful. Also respect each other, we all have a back story and some are trying to better ourselves. This is still business so don’t disrespect anybody or belittle their business
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a foodie, so we gotta eat girl ! I love seafood! I would have to take my friend to Pirates Boil for seafood. We would go to the Sugar Factory or Daiquri Factory for drinks ! The Battery for a little fun ! Nightlife would have to be Oak, Red Martini, or Jordans Lounge does a great karaoke night. The servers are bomb and host Zeus. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people that really deserve a shout out are
Jaylia Davis: My business partner and event planner. She is amazing, high spirited, and great at her job! Thanks for your support and friendship.
Terri from @lmtcosmetics1: One of the first big black owned businesses to believe in me! She’s supportive and her products are amazing. Thanks for everything you’ve done!
Mom & Dad: She’s my mentor and taught me everything I know. Couldn’t ask for a better support system!
Treylan Gilchrist: Studio owner & celebrity videographer in Alabama gave me my first makeup room and my helped me meet my first celebrity clients! His work is amazing and I appreciate everything he’s done for me.
