We had the good fortune of connecting with Aalia Sange and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aalia, how doed your business help the community or world?
There’s beauty in our world in the most unexpected places. It’s astounding how many tons of neglected, unwanted furniture ends up in landfills all over the world. There are so many pieces I have made over into beautiful new usable art pieces that would otherwise be tossed and discarded. I love that I am able to salvage these items and to add color and beauty to give them a new life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There are many people who paint furniture these days. I have worked really hard to create a signature style and I am so proud that many of my followers recognize my work even without seeing my watermark on it. I love playing with color, blending, and artfully combining elements like texture, color and form to create pieces that truly are one of a kind. There were times, especially early in my career, where I stuck with the ‘safe’ path and painted very conservatively. I found my passion truly come alive only when I painted from my core, and that included uninhibited use of color and metallics. I have learned that you do have to push forward, each and every day. There are times when it seems like quitting is the next step but you have to keep reinventing your techniques, while staying true to yourself. I want people to know that it is a true joy and privilege to take the unwanted and be able to paint and create… and then for the end result to be loved and used by someone else. I am really very grateful for this career path and the joys it intrinsically brings to me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is such a foodie hub. There are hidden gems everywhere! From midtown to Buckhead and quaint downtown Decatur, no trip would be complete without sampling cuisines from some of the top chefs in the country. Atlanta has some of the best shopping around as well. I am always astounded by all the natural beauty in Georgia. There are countless parks, trails, nature centers to explore.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and circle of friends have encouraged me from the very beginning to continue doing what I love. There have been dozens of times where I have questioned my success and have thought seriously about changing paths. I am so glad I have stuck with this passion of mine. In no small part are my clients and social media followers a part of my success. They encourage me, share my work and bring pieces I revitalize into their homes. I am forever grateful.
