We had the good fortune of connecting with 808 TWill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi 808, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was making money out of my moms house and my gmas house charging $25 hr for studio time and artist was coming to buy beats from me as well so I felt like it was time to take that next step investing into my own studio.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a music producer , engineer and songwriter. What sets me apart from most artist is I make my music from scratch from hi hats to claps to the melody etc. I use samples from time to time. I write my own lyrics , my sound is original I don’t try to clone other artist sound. It usually comes from emotion and pain. I have alot of passion for music, always been a loner . My dad got me a booth built in 7th grade he knew music was my life even at a young age . It’s been so many challenges to overcome not graduating Highschool because I was only focused on music had a group called Swagga City we were buzzing out of our city in Highschool . I even stopped playing sports that’s when I knew what my career would be I always thought I would be playing football . Swagga City grew apart and everyone started to focus more on theyself it’s been a journey so far but I learned so much along the way and spent so much money investing into this art I know one day it will all pay off
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a small city Canton Ohio it’s not much to do here honestly same few clubs but downtown is a good place to be on First Friday it’s always a good time and good vibes everyone outside walking around good energy it reminds me of the ribs burn off or the joy fest we use to have back in the day now that’s when life was lit and less problems it’s been so many killings In our city the past decade so my focus has been healing our city bringing everyone together !!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There has been a lot of people I can name who has helped me on this journey by just being there supporting. 1st I would like to thank my Mother she always believed in me she even put some money towards helping start my own business and I haven’t looked back since I had just lost my job at Spectrum ended up linking with Deontae Walker known as Yung $uave he had a studio building down the street from my gmas house which is where I was staying at the time … someone gave him my number he gave me a call and we talked about music and how they needed a producer and engineer so I ended up moving my equipment in his building the same day . I was serious so he let me work out his studio we had a deal if I record him for free he will let me make money out of there a month later we ended up losing that studio due to heavy traffic they say so I was back recording people out of the house and that’s when my mother helped me get my own studio my cousin J’Colby Waters introduced me to his God dad Ken and that’s when I got my own studio and came up with the name CM6 studios which stands for city’s most gifted. I want to shout my cousin Bo Bonds out he also helped push the brand as well CM6 studios and been around since swagga city days that’s my old group name. Brandon Stokes known as Boogieman and Nicasso Turpin helped me push the brand and get the brand out there as well and I also want to thank my family especially my lil brother Tshawn I hired him as a engineer and he’s been helping get our sound more professional so many more people to name and I really appreciate anybody that has ever helped me even if it was advice thankyou !!
