We had the good fortune of connecting with 2BeezyBeats and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi 2BeezyBeats, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
The Four Agreements! That book is pivotal, in my opinion, for people to gain a better understanding of life and relationships, and also accountability. It’s so hard to get out of your own head sometimes, that you don’t really see life for what it is every day. You don’t understand other people’s plights, and sometimes not your own, and the actions you are taking to reach the goals you want. This changed my whole mindset of thinking, honestly. And my music business thrived with these changes. Although the content is essentially elementary, the way that it is conveyed can provoke thought and change in just about anybody. I highly suggest that EVERYONE, no matter what age, read this.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Man, where do I begin…I genuinely love the music that I make. I’ve seen the growth and change in my sound and internal vibe over the past 7 years, and I love everything about it. My sound isn’t like anybody else, in my opinion. I definitely take inspiration from the producers and artists before me, but I try to not conform to what’s the most popular sound, and instead just make beats my own way. And it’s yielded some DOPE results, most def. It definitely took some time, and trial and error in terms of finding my comfortable formula, but it’s just something I worked at consistently.
In terms of the lessons I’ve learned along the way, there’s really too many to even list, and some of them are common sense, but definitely get relevant once you stumble upon a situation. “Don’t take anything personal” was something I learned from the book The Four Agreements, but experienced through interacting with different artists and musicians in the studio. Sometimes there’s alot of love, sometimes there’s tension. But you have a job to do, most importantly. MAKE DOPE MUSIC. So that’s where we focus. “Everybody has an opinion.” Another big one, you get the jist. But in terms of The Qymists and the 2BeezyBeats brand, I really want people to know that ANYBODY CAN DO ANYTHING THEY PUT THEIR MIND TO. You can be whoever you want to be. I wasn’t always married to the music, nor did i know I wanted to be. But when timing meets opportunity and vision, TAKE THE LEAP. It’s rewarding to do what you love. Never stop.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Man to be honest, I’m something of a homebody. I’d rather kick it at home and have a drink or 3 with friends and family. LOL! But some cool things i like to do sometimes, like hit a gun range, a studio, go to some bars on Edgewood, or hit a drive in movie at Starlight. Very rarely will i hit a club or venue, but if the timing is right, we can make a the night a movie most definitely. But otherwise, just kicking it with the people i love is always a vibe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give my shoutout to my team, my brothers, my best friends…The Qymists. Although together, we are all a team, these are some of my friends I have the closest relationships with. My boys Time (Kendall) and thraxX (Klyffe) have been my friends since elementary and middle school, and are even the reasons I make music today. I’ve always loved music, but i wasn’t until Kendall asked me to make beats with him in 2014 that I even considered MAKING music as a hobby. And if it wasn’t for Klyffe, we wouldn’t be a legitimate LLC right now. He really helped us elevate to the next level, and even now, both of them impact me and inspire me everyday. Always love, family.
