We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon McGee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I think what most makes the happiest is finally accomplishing a goal or reaching a milestone that I have been working towards. There’s something about finally graduating to another level after all of the hard work that is so gratifying, that’s a natural high for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To be honest, I’m most proud of the fact that I embraced my artistry and stuck with it over the years; I battled a lot of self-doubt and my insecurities to just get started. It wasn’t easy at all, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. The biggest lesson I learned along this journey was that the “perfect time” to chase your dreams doesn’t exist, the right time will always be right now. Another good one would be to know your why; this industry comes with a lot of rejection and discouragement. When that time comes, you’re going to need to something that will keep you going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ll start off with brunch spots, and I would recommend Breakfast at Barney’s, Copeland’s (Sunday brunch), and Negril. You really can’t go wrong with any of those. Now you have the attractions, let’s start with the Krog Street Tunnel, you’ll see some of the best graffiti art in the city and it’s cool to know that some productions were shot there. Next, I would say the Ponce City Market; it has a ton of dining options for all walks of life, and it has a rooftop for social events that gives you a beautiful view of the city. Lastly, I’d suggest the Botanical Garden; if you’re into nature you owe it to yourself to visit. Lastly, I would say to my fellow photographers that these are some great spots to create content.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that have poured into me, and I can never thank them enough, but the number one has to be my mother. Thank you for always being in my corner, thank you for being my biggest cheerleader when I needed it most, thank you for being my rock. I hope I’m making you proud.
