We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Compton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beth, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a woman of many hats, it’s not about an overall work life balance but about harmony. There are going to be times when balance is not an option as a solo entrepreneur. There are late nights assembling wedding invitation suites, multi-tasking during events and outings, etc.

To create harmony as a wedding invitation designer and business owner, I have discovered and continue to unveil new ways to simplify and streamline the work I do without sacrificing the personality or personalization I offer my couples. One way I have accomplished this is through the launch of a new website that features several semi-custom options for couples to design their wedding invitations. Unlike many semi-custom invitation lines, Tinlizzy Design Co. offers wedding invitations that feature included watercolor or line art of wedding venue sketches with no additional investment.

The flip side is when I’m all in with my family or friends, the emails, texts or inquiries take second. This is a piece I had to learn over time with practice. Additionally, I share this part of my life with my couples and potential couples naturally in conversation and through my Instagram stories. It’s important as a solo business owner for those I work with understand not just my art but the artist behind it. I am a wedding stationer who loves creating beautiful wedding invitations, but I am also a mom that finds joy in homeschooling and traveling with her kids. Everyone needs to be happy at the end of the day, including myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From where I started in my stationery art to where I am now, has jumped leaps and bounds. At the start, I felt like it was about meeting couple’s needs and wants first and fulfilling my creative interests, if at all, last. But over time, working on projects that didn’t inspire me or were a natural fit, took more time and energy, which constantly had me on the edge of burn out.

That’s not to say that I don’t work on wedding invitations that are new or out-of-the-box, but I have more discernment when it comes to a “yes” and focus my custom wedding invitation decisions around about what I will be excited to work on and provide joy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being in the suburbs of Atlanta, I love the ease of popping into the city or stepping out into the small towns and mountains of North Georgia. With spring here, I love getting outside to soak in the sun and visit some of my favorite walkable small towns, including Braselton, Ga.

Braselton is a small downtown with local shops and festivals, but it has great food and drinks in easy walking distance. You can grab a locally brewed beer at Braselton Brewery, originally a historic cotton mill. Walk across the street to Local Station for tasty handhelds and cocktails for dinner. Lastly, end up at Cork It for live music and a night cap. All these spots have outside eating options available, my personal preference!

And not to leave it out, but Chateau Elan is located towards the south end of town. Beyond having wine tastings, tours and food, they also have some of the best spa services and amenities. It’s such a beautiful setting to sit outside, sip bubbly and rest in their hammocks!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My husband Matt, first and foremost, has supported me, my ideas and dreams from day one. He’s been a “Yes” right out the gate. From being tech support to emotional support, he’s been by my side cheering me on.

Secondly, Amy Sullins of Amy Cole Photography has been pivotal for me and my business. After both being vendors for an Atlanta area wedding, we loosely kept in touch through Instagram. I took a leap in the spring of 2022 to attend one of her in-person retreats. Honestly, I thought I was out of my depth as a wedding invitation designer in a group of photographers.

Amy opened my eyes to so much potential within my business. From specific ways to reconsider my branding and social media strategy to the benefits of fostering authentic connections with other professionals. The retreat she hosted in St. Simons was a step out of my comfort zone, for sure, but it jumpstarted the next era of my wedding stationery business towards a bigger and brighter trajectory than I thought possible.
