We had the good fortune of connecting with Byron Marcelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Byron, how do you think about risk?
I feel like taking risks is an essential part of life. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. It sounds cliche to say because you hear it all the time but it’s really true. If you never put yourself or your work out there, you never give it a chance to change someone else’s life or in the least just inspire someone else to have the courage to do what you did. I think one of the most notable risks I took in my life and career was the first time I moved away from home without a plan. It honestly taught me to have at least a piece of a plan, because I failed miserably at that first attempt. However, I moved back home and I realized that I still needed a change, so two years later, I tried again but this time with a plan and my life completely changed for the better. The risk was totally worth the reward. I urge anybody to take a risk and see what happens. My motto is JUST SHOW UP, who knows what could happen? Could go bad, but it could also go EXTREMELY GOOD. You wont know until you give it a shot.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Byron Marcelle Experience, LLC was birthed only a few months ago and it was formerly known as Hair By Byron Marcelle. I changed the name because I had grown and expanded from just hair services. I have major plans and goals for my company to grow way larger than just hair. I’ve been doing hair since I was about 12 years old and I’ve been licensed now for 9 years. With that being said, I have about 19 year’s experience in the industry. I attended esthetics school at Paul Mitchell The School ESANI in 2019 and initially it was just to have an obligation to make me stay in Atlanta and make more meaningful connections in the industry along the way. I needed this type of anchor because I made my first attempt at moving to Atlanta back in 2016, but I didn’t have a plan and I ended up moving back home within a few months. This go around, I was determined to make it happen and during my tenure at ESANI I realized how much money was in skin care and how many different potential avenues were connected to the field of study. That, to me, meant change your branding because this business is now more than hair. The journey of starting my business has been very rewarding, but I wouldn’t say it’s been easy by a long shot. I had a very good clientele back home in Tallahassee, FL but I started to feel stagnant and like I was no longer growing so I knew I had to make a change because growth doesn’t live in comfort zones. The past two years living in Atlanta, I’ve been rebuilding my clientele in a new city and it’s had its challenges, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything! Relationships have been my biggest blessing as far as building a clientele goes. I urge anyone who is new to anything to build and nurture relationships with those who are in the same field as you, or in a similar field. The Byron Marcelle Experience, LLC offers services to brides for their big day, as well as the everyday man and woman who need hair services with styles ranging from braids, sew ins, custom wigs, silk presses, classic updos, loc styling, etc. Accompanying these services is also photoshoots, film and tv. What sets me apart from others is my vision. To me, styling a client is more than hair. When I have someone in my chair, I see it as an opportunity to build self-esteem, to build confidence, and to make someone beautiful, that is why my company is named The Byron Marcelle Experience because it is more than just getting your hair done it’s a holistic experience. I want the world to know that I am dedicated to my craft and the artistry. Again, it’s not just about doing someone’s hair, it’s about building someone’s confidence so that they can go out into the world and be the best version of themselves. How someone feels about themselves really can make a difference in how they perform and if I can positively impact them through The Byron Marcelle Experience, I have done my job. I am truly blessed, highly favored and honored to be able to touch lives in this way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta, restaurant wise, I’d most definitely take them on a journey to several, including but not limited to Roc South Cuisine & Cocktail, Café Intermezzo, Breakfast At Barneys, Kona Grill, etc. If we wanted more of a hookah vibe I’d do Sivas or UBAR. I also like randomly pulling up to Midtown Moon or Friends on Ponce for a good drink! As far as nightclubs, I love “Lyfe” nightclub, it’s always a good vibe. I also like to check out wineries because I love a good glass of wine in my downtime! Other than that we would just explore the city and find new and exciting things to do!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would undoubtedly have to recognize and give credit to my mother because she was the epitome of hard work and determination and the best role model I could’ve ever asked for growing up. I dedicate this article to her for all of her sacrifice and all she continuously does for me, my siblings and anyone else in need. Thank you for everything and I love you, Ma!
