We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Owings and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, what do you attribute your success to?
I think being gluten free ourselves, we really understood what we wanted Sally’s Gluten Free Bakery to be about. From digital to physical, having an informative website showcasing what we make and then having locations around town where you can just walk in whenever you want, choose from a selection of gluten free baked goods made fresh from scratch that morning, and enjoy them back home or on the go, just feeling like you’re able to live your life a little more normally even if you have food sensitivities.
What should our readers know about your business?
It’s been a crazy 10+ years starting so small and now we’ve got 3 locations, automated delivery and shipping systems, wedding cake programs, etc. There’s a lot to be proud of but to me, it’s more than just products and process – it’s about community. I think people appreciate being able to interact with someone who understands the gluten free lifestyle. Every day we’ll have people come in with questions about the diet and it’s really important for us to be in a position where we can try to help them. It’s certainly hard work operating a bakery but we wouldn’t trade it for anything. Every day we have people coming in who are so grateful for what we are doing. We’re providing people with something they love.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well Buford Highway would be a given. Not going there is a felony. And then there’s JR Crickets, which has lemon pepper wet wings that are in many ways the highest display of art human talent could ever showcase. Farm Burger is really good too. I always get myself some Farm Burger. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shoutout to Jennifer Harris @gfgotoguide for her tireless efforts over the years being the best source for all things gluten free in the metro Atlanta area for the gluten free community
