We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantelle Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chantelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Freedom. Plain and simple!

Autonomy is one of my most important personal values. I feel safest when I’m able to be the decision maker on matters that affect me. Being able to control my own destiny is priceless.

What should our readers know about your business?
GA Tax Lien Bootcamp is a real estate education platform. We teach people how to create financial freedom through investing in vacant, dilapidated tax lien properties.

What sets us apart from others is that we focus on properties that have been long forgotten and would otherwise be an eyesore in their respective communities. Tax lien investing also helps counties reclaim delinquent property tax revenue, which in turn helps them to continue providing essential services such as water, sanitation, fire, police, teacher, hospital, etc.

I am most proud and excited about the many students who actually take the information we teach and put it to good use, changing their lives and their family’s lives.

I am where I am today business-wise because of the awesome team I’ve been blessed to assemble over time. I would also contribute my individual success to sheer persistence, self-evaluation, and self-correction. I’m always seeking to improve systems, processes, behaviors, outcomes, as well as myself and my leadership skills.

I can’t say I’ve experienced any success in business that was easy, but things do get easier with time. With any challenge, the key for me is to analyze it, gather any people or resources available, create a plan and execute. Moving forward, inch-by-inch, removing obstacles and challenges along the way.

Over the years, in life and business, I’ve learned that staying in the game and not giving up is half the battle. It may seem cliche, but the other half is a “can-do mindset”. Where there’s a will…and all that.

I would want people to know that no matter your situation, circumstance, history, economic status, you can achieve whatever your heart desires. I know, because I’ve done it against the odds. And you can too.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, this is easy, it happens to me all the time. First, I would inquire to see if my best friend had any specific things they wanted to do and definitely work those into our itinerary. But if my best friend gave me carte blanche, here’s what we’d do:

Day One
We’d check-in to our Airbnb in midtown and get refreshed with uber eats from Metro Fresh on Monroe. We’d take a quick nap and head to Phipps Plaza & Lenox Mall because every out-of-towner wants to visit these places, am I right? We’d end the day with dinner and drinks at Houston’s in Buckhead.

Day Two
We’d start the day with breakfast at Another Broken Egg and then head to Sweetwater Park for a day of hiking and canoeing. For lunch early dinner we’d head over to Slutty Vegan so my best friend could snap social media selfies while we wait in the well-worth it long line. Later that night we’d hang out at the Apache Cafe in Atlanta, listening to some amazing spoken artists and poets.

Day Three
We need a break today and decide to stay in and cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner for ourselves. We order everything via Instacart from Trader Joes on Monroe. It’s a best friend catch-up day!

Day Four
It’s the weekend baby! Where headed to pamper ourselves today at Iwi Fresh. We’re getting fresh-made infused teas, massages, manicures, pedicures…the works. After all, we want to look our best for the Reggae party tonight! After all the pampering we head over to Caribbean Delight in the West End to get our Caribbean vibes ignited. And later that evening…..way later, around 10 pm we head Foot Prints Reggae Club in Decatur.

Day Five
We are super excited to head over to Copeland for their over-the-top amazing breakfast buffet. We decided to visit some other friends before heading to Piedmont Park where they’re having Jazz in the Park.

Day Six
My friend wants to do the tourist attractions, so we head to Centennial Park. Since we’re right there we check out the Aquarium. I love history, so insist we visit the National Center For Civil & Human Rights. We end our day with a trolley ride over to the MLK Center. My best friend insists on dinner and Harold’s Chicken & Icebox on Edgewood.

Day Seven
Is breakfast made by me at the Airbnb before my best friend’s departure. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Any business and in particular, GA Tax Lien Bootcamp would not be a success without our amazing team members! Its impossible for me or one person to be and do everything and grow at the same time.

I’ve read many books and as a team we’ve read many more together, but by far the book we reference and rely on most is Traction by Gino Wickman. It helps and has helped us to continuously build a solid operational foundation for our business.
