Meet Jason Montoya | Tactical Content Marketing Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Montoya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Where are you from and how did your background and upbringing impact who you are today?

Originally from the small city of Flagstaff, Arizona, my wife and I moved to Atlanta in 2005. Growing up, life was generously poured into me from my family (both immediate and extended) and my community. This wonderful picture of thriving with others contrasted the chaos that I’d face after getting married, moving across the country, finishing college, and launching a business.

As I experienced severe challenges of real-life, apart from my home and family, I came to realize the value of what it was that was given to me growing up from those who loved and gave to me along the way. The power of this contrast, between the darkness I now faced, and the light I grew up within, helped point the direction forward when I felt cornered and alone as I struggled to survive. Without positively and personally experiencing what was possible, I would not have known anything other than the suffering I faced and eventually overcame.

Through these trials and tribulations, I was able to face my fears, articulate what they were, and work a plan to overcome them with help along the way. While I certainly wouldn’t want to experience these roller-coaster seasons once more, I am grateful to have had the variety of experiences, difficult (during the early entrepreneurial years) and wonderful (in my experiences growing into adulthood).

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a tactical content marketing consultant, I help people-development-oriented organizations grow their influence and sales by leveraging branded digital content libraries to attract visitors, capture leads, nurture contacts, and facilitate loyal customer engagement.

As a fifth generational entrepreneur, I understand all sides of the vocational path, and this allows me to jump in the trenches, understand and align with the business owner, and act as his contract co-founder filling the strategic and tactical marketing gaps. Together, we build a thriving marketing department with each person and resource playing the right role to sustain a successful marketing endeavor.

My college degree was in 3D animation, so learning business and marketing came by doing, failing, and growing. Perhaps it was the hardest way to go about it, but it equipped me with the lessons and internal conviction that now enables me to effectively lead myself and others.

Life is Hard. Business is Challenging. The World is Uncertain. But, You Can Overcome. And, we can do it together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a vast city with a surrounding area with countless opportunities to explore. For those who have never been to the city, the Georgia Aquarium is a wonderful experience to check out, especially for families. There are many rivers and lakes, including Lake Lanier, to fish or play. If you’re looking for community, check out North Point churches across the metro Atlanta area. One of my favorite restaurants in the area is Thai Diner, located at Sugarloaf Mills.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many amazing friends, family, books, and communities that all played a vital role (directly and indirectly) in my life, many of which I’m deeply aware of, and many others of which I’m completely ignorant about.

One person worth mentioned is Matt Hyatt, founder of Rocket IT. Along my journey, he has consistently interceded in my life’s journey in some truly helpful ways. Originally we met through the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce (which has played a role in the success of my journey too), he reached out to me for a meal, invited me to a Catalyst conference (which introduced me to Andy Stanley and other great leaders show transform my life), forgave me for completely missing a later meeting with him, and contracting with me during the early and more recent years as a freelancer.

Often we think of folks who have had a monumentally large impact in our lives, but Matt is someone who is there alongside the whole journey, with small and important moments along the way.
