We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Louis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Pensacola FL. In this area, I didn’t see many happy relationships.
As result, I became curious about how to help Black communities.
During my childhood, I didn’t a lot of examples.
The Cosby Show was a modern standard of what black families could look like and it was amazing to watch.
However, my reality was very different being that most families around me were single-parent families. This in return lit a fire in me to help.

What should our readers know about your business?
Atlanta couple therapy provides services to struggling couples. Oftentimes couples in poverty or disadvantaged communities have trouble accessing mental health services. I create programs to help them have healthier relationships and increase awareness of how stress is affecting their relationship.

I’m most proud of the ability to pivot and provide virtual services during the pandemic. I know this was a challenge being that we normally have sessions in-office face to face however, building the after I do academy, an online platform that allows couples to receive mental health arrives at an affordable rate.

One challenge that I have faced as a black entrepreneur is providing affordable services for my target audience. While mental health services are needed in my community, the accessibility of these services becomes limited when financial needs are prioritized with meeting survival needs. For example, if a couple has to choose between paying rent and therapy while the need for therapy exists the choice between the two would be easy. But I have made away.

To create a space for couples to have support and gain strategies on how to communicate more efficiently. In addition, the mission behind it is to provide services to couples with mental health services regardless of their budget. We would like to have a sliding scale for payment with couples

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a licensed Psychologist, my personal mental health is very important. How I practice self-care is going to places that help me refill my cup when I’m feeling empty.
When my friend arrived I would let her know that the common denominator of all activites is self-care.
The first place would be Amicalola Falls, a 729-foot waterfall that is the highest in Georgia, to take in the beauty.
After soaking in all that beauty, I have to take a trip to Treat your feet.
The next day we would go for a walk up and around Stone Mountain and going to Rodney’s Jamaican and soul food for food and drinks.
The last day would be site seeing around Pedimont park and a picnic. Ending the day at Mary Mac’s Tearoom to have great food in a homey atmosphere.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would shout out my mom, She has been very instrumental in the women I have become. she is also a therapist.
In moments I wanted to give up on my dreams she has been a supportive anchor.
She is even helping me today with 42,000 couples inside of our group BMM
Also a couple of therapy agencies she has been instrumental in the recuiment and management of our team of over 10 staff members.

writing the book material peace, was a labor of love to provide couples with a blueprint on how couples can stay together when the struggles of life are pulling them apart.
I know that this book would not have been possible without the loving support and encouragement from my mother Mrs. Brenda Moorer.
