We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Shene’ Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ebony Shene’, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The sum total of what building an educational network across communities with lower economic statuses is what we are aiming for. Our goal is to build and expand upon what we started but within multiple states, laying out a blue print to success for all of our locations to follow. We want to become a household name for healthcare education especially when it comes to increasing the number of Black and Brown nurses in America. I hope to fill a major portion in the gap that currently exist within the profession of nursing as it applies to African American healthcare workers.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Even though I am a fulltime entrepreneur now, I am a nurse by trade. I would say that some of my strongest qualities are leadership, compassion, and execution to name a few. Eric Thomas once said that only a small percentage of people in the world fit into the category of executor. I like to think of myself as a young woman who does exactly what I said I would do. I’m not afraid to fail, therefore taking risk when it comes to my business as a nurse entrepreneur, comes naturally. To be honest, failing is a part of succeeding. That confidence in your abilities alone is a enough to withstand the everyday challenges of our career choices. I don’t believe that success is easy. If it were easy anybody could do it. True success doe not have to be made up, it does not have to lie about the facts, and true success can be felt by those connected to you. They feel like they are winning right along with you. I take pride in remaining true to myself no matter what another person thinks about me. I value being able to think for myself and make decisions not based on what I was told I couldn’t have but by what I knew I could do. When you believe in you and be the best you that you can be, with the understanding that nobody can do you better than you yourself—-That’s a win, especially knowing that I’m just a girl from Chicago with a pocket full of ambition. Nothing and No one can take it away from me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Chicago has the most amazing skyline! So of course we’d have to head to Downtown Chicago, hit up Millennium Park and get some much needed retail therapy. I’m a city girl, born and raised on Chicago’s Southside, we had so much fun just being in the neighborhood. Next stop would be to grab to a few more of the homegirls and go shopping. the Aurora Outlet mall has plenty of dope stores to hit up. What’s a weekend without Spa treatments. Skyrose Rejuvenation Clinic and Spa offers a top notch facial and Mario Tricoci has thee best massages and moist sauna room. 1 chill day to head north to Batter n Berries and we have officially girlfriend it out! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I know without a shadow of doubt that the amount of work that I put in could not be accomplished by my strength alone. I thank God for giving me the insight and the encourage that I need to step out and take risks that benefit my family, my career and my businesses. My children have been the reason that I remain steadfast and motivated to make their world and ultimately the world we live in a better place through the work that I do and the training that we provide at Scott School of Careers. Being a role model for them to pursue entrepreneurship and ownership is importance to me as a single mom of three. Recently divorced, being able to stand on my own two feet and manage our household has shown them what resilience looks like up front and personal. I am proud of my children and I hope that they are proud of me. I have a host of family members, friends and colleagues that support my community efforts. To each of them, I am grateful for their love and contribution to my work and what they do as well in their own perspective roles as mothers, fathers, and viable members of society. The community of people that I serve are supportive in action, with donations, and devote time when they can to aide in moving Scott School of Careers to the next level. Even the struggles that I have encountered deserve a shout out. The barriers that have to be broken, the dead weight that has to be loss, albeit persons or things, all have played a key role in my desire to conquer every challenge that has come my way. I am grateful.
