We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Whelan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrienne, how do you think about risk?
Taking risk is exactly how I got here. If I had listened to other peoples fears or doubts about my goals or dreams I would have never made it here. Some times taking risk for me has meant ignoring logic and trusting my intuition. It is scary but when you know you are meant to do something, you have to trust it, no matter how other people feel or how “out of reach” it might seem, it is meant for you. I left another life and career behind to follow through with my passion to teach meditation and yoga, some days are very challenging, I have never once regretted it. It was worth the risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I wear several different hats in my day to day life. I am a mom of two teenagers and 4 dogs, a holistic practitioner, nutritionist, wellness counselor, yoga teacher and meditation facilitator. I run 2 yoga studios and recently took on a community enrichment non-profit foundation with a group of my childhood friends. My empathy for others is endless and it took many years or studying and training for me to find healthy ways to embodied “it” and then use “it” to help others. I was told countless times in my life to be tougher, stop being so sensitive, stop being so trusting, to much kindness is foolish. I tried to live a life numb to my purpose and passions, I tried to follow in line with what was expected of me by my parents and peers, this only left me feeling anxious, fatigued, depressed, unsatisfied and drained. In my mid to late 20’s things started to change. I started a 5 min daily meditation practice hoping to help cope with all of my ailments. I never knew how powerful those 5 little minutes would be. I completely underestimated the benefits that would come from quietly listening to my breath. In the dark solitude of my meditations I began forgiving myself and others, I started having kinder conversations with myself, I started dreaming a little bit bigger and even felt kind of brave at times. This self acceptance of my past and present grew daily. I began to create a life I wanted to live, A life I was proud of and a life that fulfilled and satisfied my soul. I started investing in myself, I started studying my body and my own mental health. I began taking college courses, sitting in lectures, attending temples and deepening my meditation practice. Unknowingly, I was healing my self in the process of pursuing the knowledge to heal others. Today I am surrounded by people just like me. People who want to be of service, who want to share their wisdom, who want to lift up communities, households and individuals. These people, just like me, have endured the highs and lows of life and want to offer kindness, support and comfort where it is needed. Trusting your intuition takes courage and everything you want is on the other side of your fear.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First day in town we will probably stay close to Dallas. We would definitely visit Bee Humble studio so she could see our little store that offers unique handmade wellness products from local makers. I would take her to my favorite small town diner Frannick’s café, followed with a long walk down the silver comet trail or maybe a short walk around the square in historic Dallas. We have a local music store to drop in after to look at vinyl records (Hopp Frogg) and maybe that evening try to catch some live music at Raccoon creek music park or at Hixtown my favorite brewery just outside of town in Villarica. On her second day here I would take her out to little 5 in Atlanta. I love the artsy town, shops and eclectic vibe there. I love the mom & pop shops, thrift stores, small businesses and unique boutiques. I’m really looking forward to more venues opening up for more festivals and concerts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This journey has been full of people and experiences that have taught and shaped me. Some good, some bad, some difficult and some amazing. All have been equally important in me finding my own way in life. The more I follow the path that is true to me, the more incredible people continue to cross my lane and I have the pleasure of learning from. A lot of people contributed to my success and I am eternally grateful. My family of friends, my teachers, my sisters, my students THANK YOU. your support and love has allowed me to follow my passion and impact thousands of lives through meditation and yoga.
