Meet Tatyana Fulton: Candle Guru

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatyana Fulton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatyana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being my own boss motivated me to start my business. Sounds cliché, right? But it’s so true! Turning something, I love into a profitable business has been so rewarding. When I first started Sweetwax Candle Co., I was nervous. I overthought everything but I did it anyways, scared and all. I had no plan; I just knew I wanted to make candles and sell them. A couple years in and my vision for my business has grown tremendously. Providing empowring candles to my customers have been the best idea yet! I am so grateful, that I stepped outside of my comfort zone because Sweetwax has truly been a blessing to me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sweetwax Candle Co. creates home fragrance products that are intended to empower women. We use relatable, motivational, and inspiring quotes to help deliver our message. The mission has always been to provide exceptional customer service and quality products to our customers, but our vision has not always there. Now we have a clear vision and are so excited about the growth of the business. Understanding where I started from to where I am now makes me proud, the growth has been impeccable. This journey has not been easy, but it has been worth it. I have learned to take my losses and pivot. Being able to offer products that empower our customers sets us apart from other businesses. The message that we send to our customers is to never settle and keep rising above. For example, the Goal Digger Candle Collection was introduced earlier this year to our audience. The purpose of this collection has been to motivate our customers to focus on achieving their goals. The candles have been doing great! I cut out all distractions and said a lot of NO’s when it came to me starting my business. My main goal was to focus and that’s just what I did. Stopped all the fun and worked on my craft every chance I could. For anyone who comes across this article and needs advice for starting a business. I want you to know that the sky is the limit! You can achieve anything you want; work hard and keep your faith. Make sure your vision is clear and you will succeed. I want the world to know, Sweetwax Candle Co., will be a household name! Thank you to everyone who has supported us and continues to root for us. We appreciate your support.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of the places, I would suggest we go would be… Fresh Treats if we wanted to grab something good and quick. They have a great menu! My favorites are the Philly cheesesteaks and Italian ice. If we wanted to grab a snack, I would recommend Sweet Thangs Carnival Eats, where we could get a funnel cake, turkey leg or snow cone. For dinner, I would suggest Fontaine’s Oyster Bar; they have some of the best seafood here in Atlanta. The oysters, blackened cajun pasta, and lobster rolls are so worth it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I would like to shoutout my mom for being my rock throughout this journey. I just want to acknowledge and thank her for all she has done for Sweetwax and myself. She raised a strong-minded, independant, black woman and I so blessed to have her as my mom. Also, I would like to shout out my circle of friends who have been along for this ride as well. I do appreciate all the support, thank you ladies!
