We had the good fortune of connecting with Lori Rissetto and Rebecca Galla-Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lori and Rebecca, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Our business is Yoga. We teach people how to live comfortably in their bodies. We start each of our classes with a short opening meditation to get you centered and to begin incorporating breathing. We continually cue throughout the class to keep you focused on your breath, because as a society, we tend to hold our breathe a lot. With the breath we can release tension, manage stress and allow the body safely open, creating more flexibility, strength and overall well-being. Cultivating community within our yoga studio is our mission. We are a safe and inclusive space where everybody can find themselves in a supportive environment. We believe the work we share, this practice of yoga, has a profound and positive impact on the individual, creating a pay-it-forward outlook, which in turn brings more joy to the world at large.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our name The Yoga Hive denotes the concepts and designs present in a beehive. Bees are honored for their sense of community, industriousness and harmonious living. There are numerous cultures that honor the symbolism of the bee, including; happiness, good luck, honesty, community service and personal growth. Bees have a strong work ethic and yet prompt you to find balance between your work life what is needed for ones well-being. Take time out to enjoy the nectar of life. Our logo is based on a hexagon, which is found reoccurring throughout nature as a symbol of universal coherence and sacred geometry. We intertwined the O and G of ‘YOGA’ to represent that we have both been in this field for a long time, therefore falling into the category of being “Old School”, which in modern day vernacular is referred to as OG. Individually, we have both been teaching yoga since the early 2000’s. We have decades of knowledge and experience to share with our practitioners, as a result of our own continued to evolution in this practice of yoga. What we want to impart is that yoga is not merely an exercise. It is a holistic approach to living and learning to move mindfully in your body, regardless of your age, shape or size. It encompasses a full range of physical, emotional and mental benefits.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place we would bring our bestie is to take class at The Yoga Hive, then we could chose from one of the nearby eating establishments at Toco Hills, such as Yumbii, Chopt, Taziki’s, Spiller Coffee, Kale Me Crazy, The Flying Biscuit or Masti, then a spin through the Westside Market. Then we would visit the Beltline to rent a scooter to take in the local color and dine at Krog Street Market, either in the food court or sit on the patio at Superica, then perhaps followed up by a cocktail at Ladybird. We’d make sure to do our shopping at the DeKalb Farmers Market or one of the local organic markets around the city. We wouldn’t miss a stroll around Piedmont Park, cooled with a King of Pop’s and viewing of The Botanical Gardens. Ponce City Market is a must for shopping and historical architecture. For more culture we would hit The Atlanta History Center & The High Museum. We would hope that our favorite home team Atlanta United would be playing in the Mercedes Benz Stadium. There is so much to do and see in our diverse Southern city! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We have been very fortunate to have the championing of a few strong and successful women, guiding us on this journey, notably; Kathy Waller and Mindy Elms. We would also like to give a shout out to our husbands; Pedro Rissetto and Richard Jones, for their love and continued support in this endeavor.
