We had the good fortune of connecting with Genie Pacheco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genie, what do you attribute your success to?
I’m a self-taught artist and have experience in a variety of art mediums. I have focused on digital art and specialize in bringing people’s ideas into something. The most important factor across the board that has made me successful has been the continued support I have from clients that I genuinely got to know and build a solid relationship with which led me into opportunities I didn’t imagine taking on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is definitely something that reflects my interests. My color palettes are always colorful and combined with geometric shapes which adds some flare to a blank room. Creating is how I get away from everyday responsibilities and understand the world around me. Much like everyone else I’m ever-changing, and so is my art work. Over the years experimenting with different materials and methods to form a cohesive, unique style has been a challenge, but that’s how you explore, and grow as an artist! I got to where I am today professionally through patience & practice. It hasn’t been easy and has taught me valuable lessons but, I’m always up for any opportunity that expands my artistic abilities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you were a friend visiting me, we are skipping the “Top 10 things to do In ATL” Pinterst suggested. They would be getting the full local experience! To start I would take them to my favorite local coffee shop Hodgepodge ordering two Bless your Heart lattes. I would then educate them on how we don’t call it “Hotlanta”, that Five Points and “Little” Five Points are not the same thing and how there are about 71 streets in Atlanta with a variant of “Peachtree” in their name. While we are blasting to some Outcast I turn down the music so I can drive better and show off my navigation skills driving through the famous Dekalb Avenue as I hold my breath hoping I don’t get a flat tire from all these potholes. We stop by my absolute favorite place on the planet — LottaFrutta to get some of their delicious smoothies and fruit cups! I would then walk around Edgewood and Old Fourth Ward and show them all the history and local spots. To end the day, we drive back to pick up some lemon pepper wings (a delicacy in Atlanta) and of course a daily Atlanta tradition we get stuck in traffic… At least the Atlanta skyline is a beauty– gotta love that Suntrust building!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many have influenced who I am today. Naturally my family has always been my #1 fan they always believed in me, trusted me, and supported my decisions about my education and professional career. I’ve been lucky enough to have a small circle of creative friends! We are aways collaborating and encouraging each others creativity. We lean on one another for analyzing our projects, artistic support, and to learn new skills!
