Meet KRISTINA JOHNSON: EXECUTIVE PASRTY CHEF

We had the good fortune of connecting with KRISTINA JOHNSON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KRISTINA, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process of starting KJ Sugar Lips was to bring desserts a different outrageous vibe and my OWN unique twist of course. My customers know that when they order ANYTHING it will come out not only beautiful but it’ll be melt in your mouth too! All of my desserts are homemade and when I first started I was giving it out for free wherever I was then someone suggested starting my business and start charging and making it a lifestyle.

What should our readers know about your business?
“On the road of life there will always be bumps, detours, unexpected stops and sometimes you will get lost. Just learn to enjoy the ride” – Unknown I always look back on this quote because this is so true. It’s so easy to put on a front and “go with the flow,” but in my head, only dead fish “go with the flow” so I jump out to every opportunity and not allowing the negativity to deter me from reaching my full potential. With struggling with anxiety, depression, and losing loved ones, I have to not only enjoy the ride but learn myself, to slow down, and to not be so hard on myself. I specialize but not limited to drip cakes, cheesecakes, pound cakes, donuts, and cookies. I love to create recipes and experiment and of course, EVERYTHING is made from scratch. I would have to say everything that I produce “is not your regular” because it’s always a tweak of some sort in my desserts. For example, one of my newest recipes I’ve come up with that took a lot of tweaking are my my donut menu. My top seller has to be my red velvet and strawberry shortcake donuts!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have a few spots in Atlanta where I would go. I’m a really big foodie so the weekend would consist of rooftops and food in artsy areas. Our first stop would be my favorite, “Victory Sandwich bar,” in Decatur. It has a great vibe and its in a very artsy area which is always a plus. I would make sure we went to East Atlanta Village to eat more and maybe some drinks that are crazy crafty that pair with the food on the strip. Piedmont park is a staple in Atlanta so we would definitely go out there and maybe have a picnic with some local food and set up some canvases and paint until sunset. I not a big party goer but I love to go on adventures and learn about Atlanta and the history. I have gotten a call to be on holiday championship on food network so look out for me!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to first give a shout out to GOD because without having faith and trusting the process none of this would be happening today. My family, and friends of family have been there since day one of my journey. Having a foundation and knowing people are for you 100% is always a great feeling to have. My last shoutout has to go to Year-up Greater Atlanta, this organization helped me with more than just technology but how to handle my space, myself, and just great mannerisms when it comes to business. The instructors were nothing but positive and encouraging. I would like to say I love and thank everyone who gives me that extra push when I needed a mental break or even when I thought it was over.
