Meet Destiny Yemaya Davis: Marketing Strategist and Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Yemaya Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny Yemaya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that I want to build generational wealth and don’t want to rely on another company to provide me a livelihood. This particular company that I started is Hire Black Marketers. I created it as a reaction to all the protests happening following George Floyd’s murder. There were a lot of people asking for diversity and companies weren’t able to keep up with that demand. So, I created Hire Black Marketers to help brands and agencies meet that demand for diversity. It was just a mix of me wanting to create something that’s mine and wanting to create something that will affect positive change in the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve always been very open to exploring new things in my career. I’ve worked in the nonprofit sector. I’ve worked in the government. I’ve worked in corporate and across all of my experiences, I’ve always been open to doing something outside of what I know and what I’m used to doing. My career has been full of different opportunities for me to explore the many areas of the marketing field. And across all of those different avenues, the lack of diversity, inclusion, and belonging in all that I’ve done has always stuck out to me. That’s where I got to where I am now. And why I created a business that will help fix the issues that I’ve seen on my journey. In my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of big brands, and I’ve had the opportunity to grow and learn. For me, a part of growing and learning is figuring out how you can carve your own path in whatever industry you’re in. And that’s what I’m doing with my business, figuring out how I can make my mark on my own and take what I’ve learned throughout all of my professional experience and fill the void. Close the gap in what needs to be achieved. I want the world to know that anything is possible (to a certain extent). Sometimes we limit ourselves, and I’ve been able to flourish because I don’t tend to limit myself. I try not to say no. I try not to let imposter syndrome stunt my growth. I’m just allowing myself to be what I need to be and explore what needs to be explored. And I try not to let rejection get in the way of my growth. I feel like the world should know that you can have a limitless mindset and a growth mindset and that eventually will help you flourish in your life and your career and on the path that you set forth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Midtown. I love the scene… the food, the excitement. I would take that person to the high museum to experience art. I would take them to eat at Apt 4B. It’s Black-owned, and the food is excellent. For dinner and cocktails we could go to Rock Steady. It’s another Black-owned restaurant that has beautiful decor art and a great vibe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All my friends and family helped me, inspired me, and pushed me to keep forward. There isn’t just one person or one organization or one book or one thing. It’s the whole community of people that have my back and inspire me to keep going.
