We had the good fortune of connecting with Savitra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savitra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to start a business. In July of 2017, when I returned to school to pursue my MBA, I began to take my idea of being a small business owner seriously. Since my MBA program required me to create a small business, I decided to work on what eventually became my online boutique. The feedback and knowledge I gained throughout my program prepared me for my journey. I wanted a small business that fed my desire for fashion, passion for business and purpose for helping others. I enjoy fashion and wanted a boutique that reflected the needs of working professionals who juggle the everyday demands of having a busy life. The pieces that are sold in my online boutique are versatile and can transition throughout the busy day of our customers. I also wanted to have a business that was built on purpose. Our slogan is “Fashion with Purpose.” Research has shown that customers are more willing to buy from businesses that have some sort of social responsibility. Aside from clothing, we have a huge emphasis on philanthropy and education. Throughout the year we find ways to give back through various community service projects as well as work with different non-profit organizations. We have successfully hosted a book bag drive ( in Fall 2020) and a prom dress drive ( in Spring 2019). We encourage people to reach their goals and also reach others through the various community events we host throughout the year. Both of these inspirations fulfill my passion and my love for helping others though the creation of my small business. “I wanted a small business that fed my desire for fashion, my passion for business and my purpose for helping others” so I created New Era of Style, LLC
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
New Era of Style, LLC is different from other boutiques because our brand is an EXPERIENCE and a MINDSET. We are a very interactive brand and love engaging with customers online and at various events we attend and host. Since we don’t have a brick-and- mortar location we attend a number of festivals and pop-up events. We are more than fashion and trends. We take pride in pouring into our customers and the community. We want to inspire others to go for the goals in which they have set for themselves. As a company we are most proud of the authentic relationship we make with those who shop with us. Our customers believe in our dreams and our desire to help others. In regards to challenges, one of the biggest challenges for me is bringing awareness to our brand. When you are a new brand you have to build a following and with that creditability. Deciding to strictly sell online makes this much more challenging. Social media is a great outlet to advertise, but you have to be strategic, spending money on ads that do not convert into sales is wasteful. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
WOW! WHERE DO I BEGIN I have been blessed to have a great network of support. I won’t call names in fear of leaving someone out, but I will say: my family, friends, instructors and classmates from my MBA program, my mentor, my customers and all those who follow, share and like our content on our business platforms. A special shoutout to organizations like VoyageATL who give space to highlight small business owners.
