We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard A. Worthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard A., is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Where do I begin? My all time favorite quote is by Leotyne Price: “The ultimate of being successful is giving yourself the time to do whatever it is that you want to do.” I like that she connects success with time because I believe that as we grow and evolve our respect and appreciation for time enhances. Her words are a reminder that the term “timeless” is rooted in a spirit of success. In my eyes, success is an arrival to a place where everything you HAVE to do is what you LOVE to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I suppose I was always interested in writing. However, I started out as a Production Assistant for Skydive Films in Nashville. The experience of being on set made me realize how much I loved the entire creative process of filmmaking. It takes determination to make a film, regardless the length or scope. With film, or any other endeavor, you have to learn to appreciate the obstacles and not fear or despise them. It’s true, every “No” is one step closer to a “yes” and sometimes a “No” is best. You eventually learn that everyone you may want to work with may not be right for your team. As “March” was my first film as a writer and producer, I had to learn to collaborate. Without that collaboration, nothing would have happened. I always say, even a one-man show needs help building the stage. I take pride in “March” because what started as a Proof of Concept grew into an Award Winning Short Film. I’m proud of my team and all the fantastic work they did on the project. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned thus far is to “work up”. Work with people that are better at their job than you are. If you do that, you can only get better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta really has it all, so if I were going to show some visiting friends around there are a few places that come to mind. Since a few of my people are sports fans there’s the possibility we could catch a Falcons or United game at Mercedes Benz Stadium. We could also check out the Hawks at State Farm Arena next door or even a Braves game at Suntrust Park. Shopping can always kill time and some of the best stores are near Lenox Mall, Phipps Plaza, and Buckhead Village. For the evenings that we want to see a little more “flavor” there is jazz at the High Museum, laughs at the Atlanta Comedy Club, rolling and bouncing at the Cascade Skating Rink, or Ponce City Market Rooftop to take in the view and marvel at the city lights. Regardless the time of year, the World of Coke, Centennial Park, and Little Five Points can fill the day and Suite Lounge, Cigar City, Cafe Intermezzo, or the Painted Duck are great places to close out the night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off, I need to shout out a few of my more formative reads: “This Present Darkness” by Frank Paretti, “The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand, and “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent” by Isabel Wilkerson. I gleaned valuable pieces of wisdom from each of these texts. Paretti taught me how to embrace my imagination. Rand provided a blueprint to sustain that imagination. Wilkerson adjusted my vantage point by cleaning the lens through which I view the world so that I can imagine and contribute to progress. I also have to shoutout God for blessing me with my family. Without them I wouldn’t be me. Big shoutout to the odd jobs I’ve had, especially working for Print Media Promoters. If they hadn’t given me the opportunity to sell newspapers, it may have never dawned on me to write and sell a film.
