We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Shockey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Hard work pays off. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t but we shouldn’t be deterred if things don’t work out. There are times in life when we work really hard for something and life takes us down a different path. When that happens its ok to be upset but remember that things really do happen for a reason.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an Interior Designer by trade. I work for an architecture firm in Atlanta doing commercial workplace, multi family and educational work. Getting to where I am in my career has not been easy, for one I went through the 2008 recession and lost my job and had to figure out how to stay connected to the field of design. Once out of that era I worked for almost 8 years at a firm that helped mold me into the designer I am today. My current firm has me stepping out of my comfort zone and learn new things every day that I know will take me to new heights as I grow more as a person and a designer. After finally passing my licensing exam to become a license Interior Designer, yes that is a real thing, I realized that I am capable of much more than I give myself credit for on the daily.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I feel like Atlanta is a hub for great restaurants! We would for sure spend some time in Midtown eating our way through the city as we walked down the Beltine. A trip to the aquarium, civil rights museum and the new coca cola factory are a must because she is a true lover of Coke! Knowing she would come when it is warm we would most definitely take a walk through Piedmont Park and the Botanical Garden. Finally we would end the day at the top of the Westin Sundial restaurant that serves some of the best views of the city. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am without my wonderful husband who has been so supportive and my biggest cheerleader. He may not understand the world of pageantry but he knows that it is important to me. I would also like to thank my friend, mentor and director Nic Blaize. She is a true leader and inspiration to anyone that she encounters. If ever there was a time to doubt myself or my ability and what I am capable Nic has steered me in the right direction. These are just two people but there are so many more that I don’t know I have enough space to list everyone. It takes a village to get anywhere and these are a few folks that are a part of that village.
