We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Brookins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly my first thought wasn’t per say a business. I was actually in a tuff place. I was a senior in high school stressing over what I could do as an career and I had always had a passion for helping and motivating others and just doing creativity things . It honestly was just an hobby and an outlet for me . Then I developed a passion for business and motiving / helping other people and the rest is history.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My branding is all about being yourself. Embracing your passion and talent without being ashamed of where you come from or who you are. My whole life I have always been super different. I wasn’t as popular and kids were cruel. They would call me “stuck up” or “uppity” and even “Bougie”because I always saw myself as a girly girl . This is where my Brand “Black and Bougiee” come into play. B&B is a brand / community that me and my co-founder Bria Lynn Nelson created early 2020 . As we both grew up / understood what it is like to be judged because we were different and so we decided that we should make a space for Girly black women who loved the color pink and anything glamorous to be themselves with no judgment, and they would meet like minded people. Our page has connected to so many girl including girl who aren’t black . This has definitely been one of my proudest achievements and has played a big part in my brand . My individual brand which is Me “Ambersofficial” which is all about my love of pink and also my love of beauty, fashion, and Lifestyle choices. I am currently working on a 3rd part to my brand “Prettyceo” Which is all about me sharing tips and lessons I’ve learned about creating my own brand. I didn’t have much help when I started out, and I wanted too actually help others . I’m currently in college at Albany Tech . Where I study Business and marketing. I cannot wait to see what God has planned for me . I definitely think this has been a learning experience for me. However, it also has taught me how to be a better business person. Nothing is ever easy no matter what you do in life. There’s always going to be challenges along the way. You just have to learn from your mistakes and grow as you go along. I’m a strong believer every day is filled with new knowledge, it only up to us with what we’re going to do with that knowledge.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lenox Square For sure! I just went there last year for my 20th birthday it was actually a good friend of mine idea . They have, so any places too shop and if you’re anything like me, you love to shop . One of my favorite spot in the mall would be “Camicakes” shop. It is a black owed bakery everything is so pretty and beautiful. I would definitely check that out if you haven’t. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s actually a lot of people I would love to shout out. Of course God who without none of this would even be possible. I would love to shout out my mother Wendy brown who taught me what it means to be a hardworking woman and to care and give without expecting any returns. My mother is my inspiration and without her, I wouldn’t be who I am. I would also give a shout too my big sister Alexis Kiana Brookins who been my biggest supporter and has always been here for me since I came onto this earth. I would like to give my friend who also been like a sister too me Bria Lynn Nelson. She has been like a mentor into this business world. She has been a major help to our success with “Black and Bougiee“ thank you so much for all the love and work you put in. We created a beautiful community for young black Woman or woman in general. There’s a Quote I would love to share with you guys . It from one of my favorite movies “Legally Blonde “ which stars a character name Elle Woods . She saids “ On our very first day at Harvard, a very wise Professor quoted Aristotle: “The law is reason free from passion.” Well, no offense to Aristotle, but in my three years at Harvard I have come to find that passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law — and of life. It is with passion, courage of conviction, and strong sense of self that we take our next steps into the world, remembering that first impressions are not always correct. You must always have faith in people. And most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself.” What I got from that movie is that you are more than what you think your capable of . To never let anybody stop you from what you want to accomplish in this world. Anything is possible when you believe in yourself and I will definitely take that important message with me everywhere I go .
