We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisha Bellamy-Shambley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aisha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My desire to start Redefine Mentoring grew out of my own high school experience. During that time, it would have been incredibly meaningful to have a Bible-based club or organization where teens from similar backgrounds could openly discuss real-life issues and challenges while navigating high school.

I longed for a community that felt safe and non-threatening—not competitive—rooted in unconditional love and free from judgment. Through much prayer, seeking God, and receiving wise counsel, I founded Redefine Mentoring in 2019.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always had a heart for teens and young adults. This stage of life is deeply transitional—graduating high school, entering and completing college, starting careers, moving, learning how to live independently, getting married, studying abroad, internships, and so much more. There is constant movement and change. Because of this, I have long desired to serve as a guiding light, source of help, and support for this age group.

My own journey reflects that season of transition. I attended fashion and art school, which initially brought me to Atlanta from Maryland. I chose to stay and have now called Atlanta home for 26 years—wow! I have genuinely loved every chapter of life along the way. I began my career working with various brands and retailers throughout Atlanta in multiple capacities, from an internship with Theory at Saks, to working in the Fashion Office at the Apparel Mart, to serving as a Uniform Style Consultant at Delta Air Lines, and obtaining leadership roles with some of the brands we know and love today.

Alongside and in between these career roles, I consistently served and volunteered both locally and internationally. In many of these capacities, I was called upon rather than formally applying for the role. I am deeply grateful to have been seen, honored, and entrusted with such opportunities.

I have always had an eye and a passion for fashion. From a young age, I was a hard worker who believed in pursuing work I truly loved. Rarely did I chase opportunities solely for financial gain; instead, I sought roles where I enjoyed my time and felt fulfilled by the work I was doing.

My three core passions have always been fashion, business, and ministry. I remained consistent and committed to these areas, even as their expressions, roles, and titles evolved over the years.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question… I absolutely enjoy hosting and showing people around my city! For a week-long trip, here’s how I’d plan it:

Coffee & Shops: We’d definitely hit some of my favorite spots known for amazing customer service. Favorites include Tuesdays Coffee (Marietta), Bellwood (Riverside), Valor Coffee (Dunwoody or Alpharetta), or Session Stand (Marietta). I’m an Americano or cappuccino gal 😉—fun fact: I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was over 35… wild, right? Haha!

Activities: I’m an active, adventure-loving type. We’d go for a 3–5 mile hike—my top choices: Kennesaw Mountain, Stone Mountain, or the Chattahoochee River Trail. We could also bike the Beltline, take a Barre or Pilates class, and of course, enjoy some art—The High Museum or MoDA are musts. If there’s an Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta United, or Atlanta Braves game happening, we’d definitely catch one of those too!

Food & Hangouts: Some of my favorite spots include Avalon, The Works, Ponce City Market, Marietta Square, Colony Square, and Downtown Decatur. I love any Ford Fry restaurant and always make time for a layered donut from Five Daughters.

Shopping: I’m a huge fan of thrifting and consignment. I also enjoy strolling through plazas and fun boutiques rather than traditional malls. Favorites include Wish Atlanta and Ecologie—perfect spots to find something unique.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, absolutely. I am a strong believer in helping others without expecting anything in return—whether through genuine support, guidance, or even a simple conversation. It’s about sowing seeds and allowing others to water them throughout the journey of life.

I am grateful for every season of my life and for the communities God has allowed me to be a part of. Each one has been transformational to my journey. One person who stands out is my very first mentor and dear friend, Stephanie. I met her nearly two decades ago while working at Bloomingdale’s.

She welcomed me in, challenged me, and asked the hard “why” questions. She gave me assignments, listened deeply, and was both direct and gentle. Most importantly, she loved the Lord. She wasn’t perfect—none of us are—but I truly believe she was placed in my life for such a time as that, during a pivotal season. She embraced the assignment to mentor and disciple, and she did so beautifully.

I want to take a moment to publicly thank her.
