We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffaney Whyte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffaney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2018, I was having a tremendously hard year at work. I felt discouraged and overlooked. I was being questioned about my teaching style and ethics. I needed something to encourage and bring back my zest for teaching. Every year, for the past six years I would have an idea of different types of business I would like to start but never commit to anything. This journey first started as a teacher planner and stationery but I was facing stumbling blocks. That was not my purpose! I always had a love for fashion and graphic tees. I woke up one morning from a dream and what came to me was #Teach a simple but powerful word. That helped the twinkle in my teaching heartbeat faster about the profession I desired as a child. I decided to put it on a tee-shirt and the rest was history.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It has not been a smooth road. It took me almost a year and a half to see real profits. However, I was consistent because I loved creating positive and encouraging messages for Educators to wear proudly. I always said if nobody does support me or believe in me, I do! The biggest challenge is “fear” and not getting stuck into comparing myself or business growth to others. I create and design Teacher Tees, Sweatshirts, hoodies, mugs, stickers, and buttons. My business is an online apparel store. I am most proud of the creativity that I pour into all my designs. However, one design in particular that I am MOST proud of is “Teach One Impact Many”. I went overseas to Ghana, Africa in July 2019 to provide professional development for Educators. Out of that experience, that shirt was created! It’s not a hot seller at the moment however I BELIEVE in it! The experience alone makes me proud of creating something that will remind me of it every day. The memory behind creating that tee-shirt will never be forgotten! My designs are geared towards empowering and uplifting Educators. That is what sets me apart from the rest! I named this brand after my daughter De’Avion and my love for the color blue. This business is my first love named after my first love. Innovations because my design are out of this world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting we would spend time at my favorite place, Ponce City Market. There are so many different things to do there. My favorite thing to do is grab a drink from King of Pops. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Karen Womack from The Cultured Campus has shown me a great deal of love & support. We met through a Facebook group page and have been friends for about one year. We never actually met which is crazy (we both live in the Atlanta area). However, anytime I have questions I can turn to her for answers. She is the BEST!
