Meet Jin Lin | Filmmaker & Software Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jin Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jin, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over the past two years, my work–life balance has shifted a lot. I’m still a college student, so juggling coursework with growing my platform can be challenging. What’s helped is getting clear on priorities and setting firm boundaries. I block time for classes, studying, and rest, and I treat creative work like scheduled “appointments” instead of squeezing it in at midnight. I’m also learning to say no to commitments that don’t align with my goals, and to protect recovery time so I don’t burn out. For me, balance isn’t a perfect 50/50 it’s a moving target that changes with deadlines and seasons. The key is reviewing my schedule regularly, optimizing for what matters most right now, and giving myself grace when the mix tilts one way or the other.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a aspiring filmmaker I believes that pressing “record” preserves a living memory. My work focuses on real moments milestones, small victories, and quiet in-betweens—so the films become time capsules people can return to.
What sets me apart is a documentary first approach: minimal gear, intentional pacing, sound that carries feeling, and color that supports the story. It hasn’t been easy balancing shoots, budgets, and doubt taught me to plan hard, protect recovery, and ship consistently. My brand is simple: memory driven films made with care, so you feel present again when you hit play.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a student at the University of Georgia, I’d start by taking my friends straight to downtown Athens to soak up the energy that makes a big college town feel intimate and alive. We’d walk around the Arch, cut across North Campus, and drift into the heart of downtown. Where we will see street murals, local shops, and buskers setting the tone. First get Coffee at 1000 Faces, a quick chocolate stop at Condor, then an afternoon hang at Creature Comforts to sample a flight and people-watch. For food, I’d rotate the classics Mama’s Boy for brunch, Last Resort Grill for dinner, and Cali N Tito’s for a laid-back patio vibe. At night, we’d chase live music at the Georgia Theatre or 40 Watt Club, where the crowd is a mix of students, artists, and locals who know every lyric.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a huge shoutout to my family for steadying me through late nights, tight deadlines, and big pivots they’re the reason I keep going and I could’t be anywhere without them
